The Fall Top 4 Must-See Lineup: Pick #1 Sanctuary

SyFy Friday Oct 10th 10/9c

Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping), a brilliant scientist who holds the secrets of a clandestine population; a group of strange and sometimes terrifying beings that hide among humans.

Dr. Magnus runs a sanctuary for abnormals, a sub-group of species that arnt human and are rarely seen by humans. Along with her new recruit, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), her quirky tech wiz Henry (Ryan Robbins) and her fearless daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup), Magnus seeks to protect this threatened phenomena as well as unlock the mysteries behind their existence. The series also stars Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt.

This series started out on SyFy.com for its first few episodes of season one and was to be a web-only series much like SyFy’s “Riese Kingdom Falling”. However, popularity for the show and its unique story brought SyFy to make a full time series out of it and this is by far their brightest gem.

Sanctuary mixes classic historical characters with real world and modern troubles and ideas. Dr. Magnus is apart of a group of immortals, a group of 5 consisting of: Dr. Magnus, John Druitt, Nikola Tesla, James Watson and Nigel Griffin during the Victorian Era. These names ring bells to us geeks and make the story so much more interesting. Tesla and Watson are obvious but what about Druitt and Griffin? Well, having gotten their hands on vampire blood in the victorian age, “The Five” injected themselves with it, causing their immortality. With it came side effects. The first was for Druitt who after being dumped by Dr. Magnus, became homicidal and became what we know today as “Jack the Ripper”. Nigel’s side effect was more, invisible, granting him the name “The Invisible Man”. Having these classic heroes show up in a very clever way over the course of 3 seasons is part of what makes this show great. Here is a sneak peak at the upcoming season 4.

 Ground Breaking Technology

Sanctuary blazes a trail across the TV landscape with never-before-seen production technology. Starring Amanda Tapping, best known to fans as the brilliant Col. Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1, Sanctuary is the first series to shoot extensively on green screen, using virtual sets and extraordinary visual effects.
