Sanctuary Review – Chimera

Chimera was an interesting choice for an episode that transported us into the matrix all over again. It seems the sanctuary computers have been infected with a hollow earth, praxian virus that is smart and they cannot seem to control it. When Henry tries, the door rings and who is there? None other then Nikola. Of course everyone goes right to him to find out what is going on and how there was an entirely hidden sector on Henry’s computer that stored this virus. Nikola explains he saved it from praxian and needed to store it and it was perfectly safe, there was no reason for it to have escaped. That’s when Magnus admits to having taken the firewalls down briefly for maintenance.

Now the only way to stop this A.I. from making its way to the rest of the world and taking over all computer systems, they must go in. Nikola suggests it and Magnus knows what he is talking about but wasnt 100% on board. They have to go matrix style into the computer, downloading their minds into the system and try to stop the virus and contain it. Once inside, they find it is mimicking the sanctuary but soon find out, the doors and halls keep changing and its not kansas anymore.

What Tesla failed to tell everyone, was that the virus was in fact a downloaded mind of none other then Adam Worth. Nikola did this back when they hunted him down and stored it for future needs. Helen and Nikola are confronted by Adam who at first was very friendly and unaware of what was really going on. But like any A.I. with enough time it begins to learn. The first thing it did was very matrix mind bending by convincing everyone watching that Helen and Nikola had contained the virus and left the computer world, but alas they have not. Adam didnt want them to leave, they were having so much fun.

Adam has begun to put the memories together and knows what Helen did to him and what his story was up until this point and now he was hell bent on getting out of this computer world. So to prevent them from leaving he kills them, sorta. Their minds are now lost in the computer system. In the real world, Henry and Will notice both Nikola and Helen are brain dead, but alive. Henry must now figure out a way to get their minds back to their bodies.

Inside the computer, Adam loads up the computer camera feeds and decides he wants to leave in someone body. Nikola gets an idea and uses his electromagnetic abilities and sends a message via a hard drive to Will, they have a plan. Adam stops Nikola from completing the message and when he does Helen and Nikola notice a power spike. They use this to trap Adam for a short time while they wait for Will to make it into the computer system. Adam catches up and grabs all 3 of them and makes Helen choose whose body he will take over. Of course Nikola suggests Will, but since when has he been anything but self serving. Adam takes over Wills body and plans to leave Nikola and Helen in the computer forever while he goes back to the real world. Alas Adam is not able to leave and Helen seems to have control, but how? tisk tisk tisk, while Adam was busy “taking over the world” Will downloaded his mind from the spider bot into the computer, not his actual mind and while doing that Helen was able to quarantine the nanite and get rid of Adams control.

With Adam tucked away and Nikola drinking wine with Helen, he asks her if she really had to choose, what would her choice have been? The answer was cryptic at best, but she says “Do you really need to ask?”. I loved the computer/matrix feel to this episode and having Adam back is always nice because he is an intellectual villain that puts up a great challenge to Nikola and Helen both of which are very smart. And Nikola, who is such a great character has his normal quip and sassy lines with Helen, which are always a great touch to the vampire Tesla.
