After Merlin saves Arthur he is gravely ill and must be taken back to Camelot to survive. Lancelot volunteers to take him and allow the others to continue on their quest to the isle of the blessed. Back in Camelot Lord Agravaine closes the doors to the castle preventing the towns people from seeking safe haven. This angers Gaius and Gwen. In front of the court Gwen convinces them that they should open the doors and allow the people in, despite the fact that their food stores are low. Agravaine goes to Morgana and tells her that there is some trouble in Camelot. Morgana knows Gwen is a major threat and has seen her future with Arthur and tells Agravaine, she must never see another dawn.
Arthur and the knights continue to push forward through the woods and into the tunnels to save time but must avoid dangerous animals on the way. Lancelot stops near a stream with Merlin and carries him to the ground. There Merlin touches the water and small spirits come out and talk to Lancelot. They explain they are the spirits of the brooks and streams, and they are friends. The balance has been broken and Arthur will need their help to fix it. They heal Merlin and give Lancelot and Merlin a safe haven to rest and sleep for the night, protected from the evil spirits.
Agravaine lures Gwen outside after hours alone with only 2 guards, and Morgana strikes, killing the guards, and leaving Gwen for the spirits. Lucky for Gwen Gaius found her and saved he before she was killed. Gaius fears that Lord Agravaine is not as pure as he seems and thinks he is in league with Morgana. Both Gaius and Gwen must be more careful now then ever before.
The next day Merlin is healed and is ready to go back to Arthur as they press on to the isle of the blessed, despite Lacelots objections and wanting Merlin to go back to Camelot. After falling asleep, the doracca caught up with them and they run for their lives, and Merlin calls out to the dragon for help. He shows and protects Merlin and Lancelot. Lancelot is a bit shaken by the Dragon and the Dragon asks who he is. Merlin tells him and he says “Ah yes, the most valiant and trustworthy of the knights”. When Merlin explains his intent to give up his life for Arthur, the Dragon explains there was something he saw in Merlin that was invisible, that only know was visible for everyone to see. He says “The world will be a much emptier place without you Warlock”.
By night they caught up with the knights and much to everyones happy surprise, Merlin was well and there. They make it to the isle of the blessed and meet where the Vail was ripped and standing there was the Callics. She demands a soul for fixing the Vail, she wont do it for free. One of the knights rushes at her, and she knocks him to the ground. Arthur offers to give his life and he walks towards her. Just as that happens, Merlin uses a spell to knock Arthur over and he approaches her. She exclaims to Merlin, by the name Emrys “So you are ready to challenge me Emrys? Are you willing to give up your life for Arthur?”. He said yes, but she told him that his story is still being written and even if he wanted to give it up, he couldn’t. Just as she said this, Merlin turned and saw Lancelot walk into the Vail, giving up his life to spare that of Arthur, Merlin and the world.
