Epic – A Battle In A Hidden World Determines the Fate of Our Own

By | Posted on 27 June 2012

Next summer we’ll once again be treated to a CGI action comedy.  That may be nothing new these days and while this isn’t from the venerable Pixar, what little we’re shown in this first trailer is promising.  There’s action and comedy, as one would expect, but something about the trailer just gives me hope that it’ll be a notch above other CGI animated fare.

The film looks as if it’ll appeal to movie-goers of all ages, which is a big plus.  The character animation is right up there with today’s standards, and while very good it doesn’t really stand out.  What really caught my eye while watching the trailer were several nature scenes that were very impressive.  Water and atmospheric effects were especially good for an animated feature.

Official Description:

Epic is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of Ice Age and Rio, Epic tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.

This morning, (6/26) Good Morning America had an exclusive premiere of the trailer, which you can find on their Yahoo! News site here.  Or if you’d prefer, it’s embedded below.

Epic is currently scheduled for release on May 17, 2013, but with so much time until the release this date could change.

Editor for Three If By Space. Tom first became interested in science fiction & science as a very young child thanks to his parents. His earliest memories of enjoying scifi were sitting with his dad watching first-run episodes of the original Star Trek. Although a rabid fan of nearly all forms of scripted television, some of Tom’s favorite shows are Firefly, Falling Skies, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, the X-Files and all versions of both Star Trek and Stargate. He also has a particular love for British television and dearly hopes to one day visit the UK.
