Monsters University – Gets A New UK Trailer, Website, and Message From the Dean

Until just recently about all we’ve gotten from Disney/Pixar surrounding Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters, Inc., was a teaser trailer.  I was beginning to wonder if we’d ever see a full trailer before the movie makes its premiere on Friday, June 21, 2013.  Thankfully the first of what I hope to be several full-length trailers has been released in the UK just recently and I’ve got it right here for your monstrous little eyes to feast upon.

If you didn’t already know, Monsters University turns back the hands of time to show us how Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan became best friend and mastered the art of scaring in the process.  Becoming a scary monster is apparently serious business that requires serious study, hence their attendance at the titular establishment of higher education where the pair first met.

As you can see from the trailer, it wasn’t exactly a friendship from the start.  There’s a real sense of rivalry between the two at first and it looks like that sense of competitiveness might just be what bring Mike and Sully together as friends.  It looks like we’ll be seeing a whole lot of new monsters in this film, but judging by the cast list over on there’s going to be at least one familiar face/voice joining the guys, and it was just the character I was hoping to see.  Only click on the IMDB link if you don’t mind being spoiled to at least one character return!

Plot Outline:

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”). The film opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

And since a movie alone just won’t do, there’s an entire website for the fictional Monsters University.  At the site you can learn everything you wanted, and maybe didn’t want, to know about the school.  This is a fully functional site that covers every topic a real school might.  You can spend hours just clicking around an reading up on the school.

The marketing geniuses behind the site also have a real store built in to the site.  So if you’re inclined to get yourself a nice MU coffee mug or 4-sleeved hoodie then you’re in luck.  I would’ve mentioned the 4-sleeved t-shirt, but they’re sold out at the moment.

Heck, these guys even have a promotional “commercial” to give you an idea of what kind of potential you can tap if you’re a monster looking to get a good education.  The video is entitled Monsters University – Imagine You at MU and you can watch it right here.

Here’s more full-length video called Monsters University – A Message From the Dean.

Editor for Three If By Space. Tom first became interested in science fiction & science as a very young child thanks to his parents. His earliest memories of enjoying scifi were sitting with his dad watching first-run episodes of the original Star Trek. Although a rabid fan of nearly all forms of scripted television, some of Tom’s favorite shows are Firefly, Falling Skies, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, the X-Files and all versions of both Star Trek and Stargate. He also has a particular love for British television and dearly hopes to one day visit the UK.
