Falling Skies Wondercon Trailer Reveals New Footage and Original Score

Falling Skies

At the Wondercon panel today the most shocking bit of information to be revealed was a new love triangle for Maggie. Granted the love triangle isn’t the shocking part, as that’s been done before. It was the fact that its between Hal, Maggie and Ben. If we move away for a second from the fact that they are brothers, Ben is young compared to Hal and Maggie. Ben is in his mid teens while Maggie is in her middle to late 20s as characters.  While this news has shocked fans of Maggie and Ben, one thing is for sure: there is more to it then a simple love triangle, i don’t for 1 minute think that David Eick would make it that easy.

Eick has a reputation for complex story arc’s and so far it appears he is keeping that intact. During one interview at Wondercon Sarah Carter, who plays Maggie, described her very strong reaction to reading what Maggie was going to be doing to Hal, by having this relationship with Ben. We know all the characters are separated. It is also clear now that there will be new pairings on screen. One of the things that both the cast and myself like seeing is the ability to share screen time with different characters that don’t normally interact on a daily basis. The groupings as we understand them so far are:

Mpho (Anthony) will be sharing screen time with Moon (Anne)

Connor (Ben) with Sarah (Maggie) and Scarlett (Lexi)

Drew (Hal) will be spending his time with Colin (Pope) and Ryan (Tector)

We don’t know much yet about Tom, Weaver or the others. We do know from the previews that Matt is in some form of WWII style internment camp. It seems confusing now but all the separation means more focus on character development and stronger more detailed science fiction arcs and stories. Lexi is all grown up now and there is a lot to explain there. Lexi and Ben share a lot more in common then anyone else within the Mason family or the 2nd mass. That could be used against him.

The effects of the harness are ongoing and mostly unknown. Karen was able to fully merge with the harness unlike some of the foot-solider children and Ben seems to be headed that route himself. He has more powerful than any of the other children and his ability to control his spikes is something the Espheni will need if they want to stop the skitter rebellion. Ben may end up the inside man the aliens need to win this war and feed them intel. Could that lead to losses at his hands?

Matt appears to be in some type of military camp, clearly run by children who have been harnessed and/or brain washed. Matt is young and still unsure of the world, so will he too be corrupted or does he know the truth and is simply doing what he can to survive? I personally think that without the influence of spikes or a harness (unlike Ben) that Matt will not fall to that brain washing but if he doesn’t, he must watch himself. If he is caught, or if they found out who he really was, that could put him in great danger.
