Game Of Thrones Recap/Review – The Mountain and The Viper

By: Robert Prentice
game of thrones

The wildlings continue to raid villages, and Sam fears that the girl he saved and the baby are dead. The knights watch fears they are next, and that Mance’s army is close by. Grey Worm has his eye on a woman, something the Unsullied are not known to care for.  The Bolton bastard sends a brainwashed and confused Theon Greyjoy to get a garrison of iron born to surrender, so he can take control in order to get in his fathers good graces.

Petyr is questioned about the Lady Arryn’s death. He claims it was suicide but the others don’t believe it. Sansa is brought before them to tell the truth surrounding her Aunt’s death. She reveals her true identity but rather than say what Petyr really did to her Aunt, she defends him. She claims he lied simply to protect her. She puts on a very convincing story about her Aunt stepping off the ledge and falling.

It is revealed to the Mother of Dragons, that Jorah had been pardoned by King Robert and that he was spying on her. When she asked why he was pardoned, he explains that he was giving information to Lord Varys. She banishes him from the city of Moreen and threatens to have him killed if he is found by morning.

Ramsey Snow is finally given the surname of Bolton as reward for helping secure the north for his father and is now warden of the north. Petyr asks Sansa why she bothered saving him. She explains that had she not, not only would they have killed him, but what would they have done with her? The Hound and Arya arrive at the Vale only to find out that her Aunt died 3 day earlier. While the Hound was speechless, Arya breaks out in a giggle over the whole thing.

Tyrion and Jamie have a brotherly discussion about his impending death, names for killing different members of your family and a small history lesson.

After a week off, Game Of Thrones returns with a battle that many have been waiting for all season. Granted we had to wait until the final 15 minutes of the episode. Tyrion is on the chopping block for murder but Prince Oberyn has decided to be his champaign. While Oberyn and Tryion are not all that different from each other, he didn’t volunteer for Tyrion. He did it to kill the man who murdered his sister. The Mountain has been his target for a very long time. Oberyn appears to have the upper hand in the fight and takes the Mountain down with several strikes but is insistent on getting a confession from him over the murder of his sister and who gave him the order. His arrogance cost him, as the Mountain tripped him and smashed his head in. With him and the Mountain dead, Tyrion is officially sentenced to death.

Another episode with a killer cliffhanger right at the end. Personally the best part of the episode was the final 15 minutes. The first 45 was a lot of setup but not a lot of action. Only a few episodes left this season.
