Nintendo Reveals New ‘Legend Of Zelda’ Footage At E3 2014

At the E3 2014 show this week, Nintendo revealed the first footage of its new Legend Of Zelda title for Wii U. The game itself still doesn’t have a title but one of the key new features is an open world design. The classic world of Zelda has always felt like an endless world with which you could explore for hours and hours on end. As the games progressed on newer systems, they became less open world and more rigid in the story line and expandability of play.

Earlier Wii U tech demos showed off a massively more complex and rich graphical appeal to Zelda but as one blogger commented, tech demos are never the final edit of a game but merely a quick rendering of what is possible on a said system. Everyone has commented on the fact that the Wii U has a triple core CPU and a much richer GPU that could produce a game of that quality, but even what we see in the demo at E3 is impressive.

The question raised shortly after that demo was played was whether the character we were witnessing was actually Link or not. The rider was wearing a blue tunic and orange pants, nothing like the green tunic and cap that we typically see for Link. When asked about it Eiji Aonuma said “no one explicitly said that was Link”.

Tell us what you think of the new footage and the game. Will you be picking one up? Expected release date is 2015, but I would venture to say collectors edition Wii U bundles will start showing up around Christmas 2014.
