Dragon Con is all about the fans. So one of the treats you get at the convention are panels made up of fans who talk about their favorite topics, genres and shows. This year I had the privilege of being on one such panel for Falling Skies. Sure it was not the cast panel with Drew Roy, Colin Cunningham and Mpho Koaho but it was fans just like you talking about their ideas on their favorite show.
The panel titled “They Can Not Erase Us: Falling Skies Fan Panel” included Panelists Jesse Jackson (Head Podcaster and Writer at Next Stop Everywhere – A Doctor Who Podcast), Alison Sky Richards (Writer), Michael Ahr (TV Critic for Den Of Geek) and myself. During the panel we discussed all the events that lead us up to season 4 including the Lexi storyline and the mythology of what it is the Volm and Espheni both fear so much.
The panel was done prior to the airing of the finale so we don’t tease much about the finale that you by now have seen but we get into a good debate about just how the series should end. If you look at all your favorite characters in the show and think: What would they become if the world were normal? Would Pope be an outlaw? Would Tom go back to being a history professor? Better yet, is there any going back to normal at this point? If the Volm never return will Ben and Denny ever get to live a normal life or will it get cut short?
While Jesse would like to see them finish out the series with a happy ending and a look at post-alien invasion life, I for one am looking more at a darker finish. I feel the story needs a gloomier finish with lives lost and perhaps a battle that just won’t end yet some closure on the mystery itself.
