The Dark, Gritty Power Rangers Film You Probably Maybe Always Wanted

If you grew up in the 90s you probably remember Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. As a kid it was the coolest show you could watch. As an adult you look back on it and you may still like it but its far too ‘nice’ compared to shows of today. Well fear not. After news that Loinsgate was going to attempt a reboot film, Adi Shankar decided to make another short in his ‘bootleg’ series directed by Joseph Kahn. The 14 minute short stars James Van Der Beek, Will Yun Lee, Bree Olson, Camilla Lim and Katee Sackhoff.

It’s music is campy, the dialog is hit and miss and the overall short isn’t a blockbuster movie, but after watching it you kinda wish it went on for a full 90 minutes. Any time you add Katee Sackhoff to the mix you jump right into science fiction action flick. This short is not the PG 90s TV series, but a very dark, gritty R rated version of the dark world that was your childhood. I mean lets get real here, these are high school child soldiers who were dragged into an intergalactic war that had nothing to do with them (as Adi Shankar put it).

The twist at the end (which I won’t spoil until you watch it) makes me wonder if this person always ends up as not being who they appear to be? Doesn’t make them any less bad ass. Like it or hate it, sound off below and tell us your feelings.

Update: We keep having to change the video link as youtube starts to take down the film due to copyright claims by SABAN

Update 2.0: Apparently SABAN has backed down, realizing their claim was thin at best given the law. Now the video is back up with some disclaimers to satisfy all parties.
