Constantine to Bring Hell to Arrow

Arrow Constantine Matt Ryan

Hellblazers, rejoice! Well, at least give a wild Huzzah! Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW, gave some very welcome news today at the Television Critics Association meeting – Matt Ryan, AKA John Constantine, will appear on CW’s Arrow for a one-episode guest shot.

Comicbook.com reported, “The CW was considered a “last hope” for Constantine to get a second-season pickup before the cast and crew’s contracts lapsed earlier this summer. In the time since, fans have continued to press Arrow producers on the possibility of a crossover, and producers continue to say, essentially, that they hope they can make it happen but have no promises for anyone.”

Constantine, which ran for 13 episodes this past season on NBC, was cancelled amid loud protests from both comic book and show fans. While the show was inconsistent in tone, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the character of Zed (Angelica Celaya), I loved Matt Ryan’s portrayal of the tortured, sarcastic exorcist (and more). Another season could have been very helpful to build the audience, but the show was cancelled before it could manage to get enough viewers to make it worthwhile in NBC’s terms. Fans had been hoping that Syfy, one of NBC’s sister networks, would pick it up, but that deal was never put together.
