In the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump released in Japan today, the announcement was made that Food Wars, Shokugeki no Soma, would be getting a second season. We were super excited to hear this and not at all shocked by it either. The show is highly addictive with its competitive food battles, wacky antics and underlying story plot. Sure on the surface the show is basically food porn, especially when we watch the characters eat and experience the various flavors of their latest creation. However, the show mixes the edge of your seat competition aspect with the comedy and a little mystery into the characters that just leaves you rooting for young Soma non-stop.

The anime series itself has only covered about half the manga in 24 episodes leaving plenty of material to warranty a second season.

If you are not familiar with the show, here is a short synopsis. Like, Share and Tweet this article then leave a comment and we will pick 3 random winners to get a Crunchyroll 48 hour guest pass!

Shokugeki no Soma tells the story of a boy named Sōma Yukihira, whose dream is to become a full-time chef in his father’s neighborhood restaurant and surpass his father’s culinary skills. But just as Sōma graduates from middle school, his father, Jōichirō Yukihira, gets a new job that requires him to travel around the world and closes his shop. However, Sōma’s fighting spirit is rekindled by a challenge from Jōichirō which is to survive in an elite culinary school where only 10% of the students manage to graduate, where he meets many amazing students and experiences new events that allow him to grow further towards his goal.
