Manga Review: Tokyo Ghoul Vol 6 English Edition

By: Robert Prentice
Tokyo Ghoul Viz Media

Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way—except their craving for human flesh. Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid. Trapped between two worlds, he must survive Ghoul turf wars, learn more about Ghoul society and master his new powers.

Things heat up in the Ward Eleven as the CCG investigates the high rate of Investigator deaths. Kaneki has an explosive run-in with Aogiri Tree, the Ghoul Gang, run by a Ghoul known only as the Sekigan King.

The 11th ward is rocked by the ghoul gang known as Aogiri who comes in seeking Rize or someone who smells like Rize. Upon finding Kaneki, they take him only to realize during the fight that he was one-eyed much like their ‘king’. Touka comes face to face with her brother who doesn’t want anything to do with the human world or his stupid sister.

Juzo continues to piss off all of his superiors and weird out the others, the part where he decides to show us how he created his body stitches was creepy. Its something I wish they put into the anime but didn’t. There it felt more like he drew them on his skin rather then actually stitching them. This just goes to show you why reading the Manga is so important. All the additional juicy details that get dropped.

Juzo gets a detailed lesson in Ghoul anatomy and how their kagune work. After being taken to the head of the Aogiri leadership, they find Kaneki useless to them and he is thrown in a cell. Banjo comes in to break Ken out, but their escape plan is met with disaster as Aogiri found out. Kaneki has only one choice, go back with them or everyone suffers. What he doesn’t know is just how much he is about to suffer.

This is the part of the manga to reaches the end of the first season for the anime. Things get intense after this and it will be very interesting to see how the Manga differs once we get further into it. Im excited for Vol 7 already but before that comes out in June be sure to get your copy of Vol 6 and learn moe about the Ghouls and Kaneki’s fate. The background info on the Kagune is one of my favorite parts of this volume.

Order your copy today on Amazon.com. Vol 6 drops April 19th.
