As we ramp up for the final episode of the season, we’re getting a lot of Outlander info! Ron Moore did two Twitter Q&As this weekend, Outlander was featured in the CBS Sunday Morning program today, and Matt Roberts started the day off with a nice Q&A of his own!
Q Filming begins?
A Takes a while to prep – it’s a whole new world – around Sept.
Q did you get a vacay at all between seasons?
A I didn’t. Went straight into (secret) S3 prep.
Q What is your favorite part in Voyager?
A A. Malcom ;-{>
Q Have you written any scripts yet for S3?
A Yes, two so far…
Q What’s the mood in the Writers Room lately? 2 more seasons!
A Everyone is very excited. It’s been fun breaking down the book.
Q Have you already been scouting locations for S3?
A Yes… we started that a few months ago.
Q What new character are you looking forward to in S3?
A Young Ian and older Fergus.
Q Are the same writers back? Usual suspects, any new faces?
A We hired four new (very talented) writers.
Q Is Ann Kenney still there too?
A Of course she is!!!
Q Will Toni Graphia be back next year too?
A Both Toni Graphia and Ann Kenney are back in addition to the four new writers.
Q Will you live tweet on 7/9?
A I’ll try to live tweet – but I’ll be in Scotland prepping.
Q Will you bring back POTD (pictures of the day)? LOVE them!!!
A The POTD seems to be a fan fave so I’ll do my best to keep it up.
Q How did you make Colum’s legs look so deformed?
A It’s a visual effect.
Q When did you learn 213 would be 90 minutes? Was it planned that way or just too much to fit in 60?
A In the writing stage. Toni Graphia and I wrote it together and I believe our first draft was 96 pages which is way too long to film.
Q What did you cut it down to?
A 77 pages (of raw emotion)
Q How many boxes of Kleenex and bottles of whisky required for finale?
A Since everyone’s threshold for pain is different – I’d say have at least one box ready for sure
Q Love the intro credits… do you alone create and film those?
A THX. But nothing on Outlander is created alone… it takes a village.
Q Have you ever thought of trying cinematography?
A Directing yes, cinematography now.
Q Are you in charge of all the title cards or just a few each season?
A I am.
Q Knowing Outlander is all consuming, are you looking at any other projects for future adaptations or original projects?
A My only other project is SLEEPING when I get a chance. Outlander takes up all of my time.
Q Maril said we had to look closely at the title card from Episode 1. Will we see some of it in 213?
A There’s a callback to the Ep 201 title card in the finale. Look closely and you catch it.
Q Favorite title card?
A Ep 213 title card is my favorite.
Q Does the punishing Outlander schedule ever make you feel rushed at writing each season?
A Time is the one thing we are always up against. There’s never enough.
Q Caribbean filming potential in S3?
A I wish I could go to the Caribbean. Sorry no.
Q Have you read all the books?
A I have read them all.
Q How challenging is it to come up with each week’s Title card?
A It’s getting tougher with every ep. But that makes us work just a wee bit harder to make them special.
Q Have you adopted some Scottish expressions in your everyday life during OL work?
A A wee bit.
Q Were there book scenes left out that you’re sad not to see? And what changes from the book have you particularly liked?
A My favorite addition is making Murtagh a bigger character. And for good reason, Duncan Lacroix is brilliant.
