SDCC: Gotham’s Morena Baccarin and Executive Producer Danny Cannon

Gotham’s Morena Baccarin & Executive Producer Danny Cannon:

SDCC was full of exciting news and television gossip and Three If By Space was in the thick of it.  We talked with talent from all over and heard the inside scoop about some interesting things.  Gotham is one of those shows that we got some inside news about what’s to come and some hopes from the actors about where they want their characters to go.

Morena Baccarin- Leslie Thompkins of Gotham

Morena Baccarin plays Lee Thompkins in Gotham and while her role in season two was very limited she returns to Gotham in season three with full force.

Morena is charming and lovely and interviewing her was such a treat.  She talks about Leslie’s future and how she found new love when she moved away from Gotham. She hinted that the person is related to a big player in Gotham’s underbelly and mentioned Falcone. Lee has to return to Gotham and face Jim again, I’m very curious to see what happens with that dynamic.  As those who have read my reviews before know,  I think Lee and Jim are made for each other and I can only hope this means there is potential for them to reunite as a couple! Baccarin says that their interactions at the GCPD feel unresolved and that she knows Lee wants to be able to talk to Jim about what happened, but Jim being Jim makes that hard to happen.

When asked what her favorite part of season two was, Baccarin replies with “I love the villains in season two. I love the darkness, the dark turns that it took. The whole Indian Hill thing and the monsters it was so twisted and terrifying!” She also said that she enjoyed being able to just be a spectator and watch all of it unfold.

Executive Producer Danny Cannon

Danny Cannon joined us and talked about some new characters and what’s to come with the Court of Owls.

The first big character we talk about it The Mad Hatter, who has been in Batman lore for a long time, but has frequently been left out. Cannon’s hoping to give him new breath and a new life in this season.  He wants to give him an actual origin story, and how tied to his sister he is.  Cannon talks about the Court of Owls and how huge of a role they play this season.  “Season three we discover and find out about and understand the origins of the court of owls and their grip on Gotham and their power.”. They’re really going to focus on the assassin Talon this year as well.

“Gordon can’t deny his DNA anymore”

As far as the GCPD goes, Gordon is still refusing to be a police officer and becomes a bounty hunter!  “Barnes is holding down the fort and Bullock becomes very instrumental in helping him”.  He also said that “something is going to happen where Gordon can’t deny his DNA anymore” so hopefully that means Gordon will grow up a bit, and come to his senses!  When asked about whether it was hard to write for a variety of ages Cannon replied “The more variety makes it much easier to write for… and variety is what Gotham is about.”  He also says “Diversity in any which way shape or form, that’s what makes it easy to write for. The fact that (Gotham) is complex, colorful, dangerous, and beautiful it’s never a problem.”
