Syfy’s Aftermath 105 & 106 Look Back & Thoughts

Aftermath syfy

With the Copeland family whole again, they run into yet another military friend of Karen’s. Seems like all her former military friends are just a stones throw away from where they are all the time. Anyways, it turns out the last earthquake managed to change the shape of the coast lines. That meant the oceans had moved in nearly 15 miles from their original location.

aftermath-gallery-105recap-07Karen starts to hear a scream in her head. And she is the only one that can hear it. Her daughter points out it could be the scream of a banshee. The twist is you only hear a banshee just before someone dies. The newest creature to make an appearance is a Japanese mythological man-eating plant, which is now actively stalking them. Turns out that street salt is enough to put the plant at bay, who knew.

When they reach the Alamo, they find food, hot water and music to greet them. One of the soldiers takes a liking to Dana. In a funny sibling moment, Brianna offers dating advice to her about how to handle him, while their brother is told to shut up. A normal family moment in the middle of a crazy apocalypse. After Sally returns with Booner’s friend, they ambush a group of fever heads who also are possessed. What they didn’t expect was that Bonner’s friend was already possessed and infiltrated their camp. The result was Sally’s death.

The family splits up as one heads to the camp where Sally volunteered, while the other heads off to the university to gather research. At the university, Dr. Copeland looks for his former co-worker who has so far predicted everything that is happening. He happens across a shape shifting demon that took her appearance first. Then he finally finds her and they discuss her work.

At the camp, Dana and her new boyfriend outrun another plant as a team of what looks like escaped prisoners corner them with guns. Karen ends up mowing them down when they falsely claim that they killed Dana. Dr. Copeland doesn’t learn much from the teacher but does know that the mountain is about to blow and they need to leave. The only thing he has to know what will happen next is computer cards that he needs a reader to use. It also appears that Devon is possessed by a skin walker who is somehow in love with Brianna. His fight to hold back the skin walker was too much for him, so he kills himself. As we fade to black, the mountain is preparing to explode.

It is clear they seem to be going for a biblical end times where every culture’s mythology was correct. However, some small tidbits have given us some insight into what might be coming. The doctor talked about a wave, that was causing all of these things to manifest. I am a little disappointed that 6 episodes in we don’t really have any answers. I don’t want everything but we are piling on questions at a much faster rate then we are wrapping up answers to those questions.
