Episode 10 of Once Upon A Time once again left us wanting more! I was very excited about Episode 11, and I was not disappointed!
Regina continues to chastise Emma on her parenting and leadership styles, or lack thereof. Emma complains to Mary Margaret, but Mary Margaret receives a text from David to meet up with him. As she leaves, Sidney sits down. He wants Emma to expose the mayor for who she really is. After Regina got him fired, he did an exposé on the mayor’s office, and he found something “she didn’t want found.” Emma just waves him off, saying he’s just drunk.
We finally get to meet Sidney’s counterpart. Personally, I think it’s a little ridiculous, but it just adds to the awesomeness of the show! He’s the genie of Agrabah!!! And the man who awakened him: the king, Snow’s father. He tells the king that he hates living as a genie, and as the king’s first wish, he grants the genie freedom. For his second wish, he wants to give the genie his third wish. Why is the king being so nice? Suspicious…. The genie warns him that every wish comes with a price, so he will never use his third wish. The king asks the genie what he will do with his freedom, and the genie tells him he wants to find true love. With that, the king invites him to live at his palace. Seriously, something’s going on. At the palace, the genie meets Snow and Regina.
Henry watches in horror as his palace playground is ripped to shreds. It was destroyed by the storm, but Regina wanted to tear it down. Then he discovers that his book is gone! He had hid it under the sand. When Emma confronts Regina about it, Regina basically threatens her. Emma needs to learn her place in this town, or soon she won’t be in it. Emma then calls Sidney.
Mary Margaret meets David at the spot where she found him. He had made a little picnic. And of course, kissing ensues. 🙂
Sidney meets Emma in a large, dark irrigation tunnel. Of course, he’s wearing a hat and trench coat. He says $50,000 of the budget is missing, and Regina is responsible. He wants Emma to trail her, tap her phone, hack into her email, etc. But Emma says she wants to do this the responsible way. Really? NOW you choose to be responsible?!
It is the king’s birthday, and he doesn’t want any gifts. He already has the greatest gift of all: Snow. Regina sits stonily in the background. Her face is clearly pained when he says that Snow and her mother were truly the fairest in all the land. The genie is the only one who sees her walk away into the courtyard. She tells him of the tree in the courtyard that was taken from her childhood garden. Neither she nor the tree belong in the kingdom. She will never be first in the king’s heart. The genie gives her a mirror (hmm…) to see how he truly sees her, as the fairest in all the land.
Emma and Sidney are going through a bunch of files. They discover that the money transfer records went missing three weeks ago. Emma still wants to go about it the right way, but Sidney wants her to do it his way. Mary Margaret chimes in and rants about sometimes it’s okay to do something bad as long as things are meant to be! Right… Emma wants to just talk to her about the records. When they confront her, she retorts that they were conveniently burned in the explosion that happened during the campaign. Emma and Sidney leave, and she tells him she planted a microphone under Regina’s desk.
The king calls for the genie and tells him that he suspects Regina’s heart belongs to another man. He had found her diary and read about what had happened the night before. She feels trapped in the king’s court. Luckily, the genie’s name is not mentioned. The king desperately wants to please his wife, and he enlists the help of the genie to do so. He wants to find the man that has stolen his wife’s heart.
Sidney sits in the Sheriff’s office listening to the tapes from the planted microphone. Regina had made a phone call telling someone she would meet them with “the rest of the cash.” Unfortunately, her phone was not tapped, so they do not know who is on the other line. They decide to trail her, and they follow her into the woods. As they are driving, Emma tries to hit the brakes, but they won’t work. They hit a street sign and discover that the brakes had been tampered with. They go out on foot, afraid they’ll miss the handoff. Emma is determined to find out who Regina is meeting, and her answer comes quite unexpectedly. It’s Mr. Gold! He was meeting Regina for a “business transaction.” He reveals that she had bought part of Mr. Gold’s land, which included the woods.
The genie enjoys an apple off of the tree in the courtyard. He is expecting to meet the queen, but is surprised by her father instead. The king has locked her in her chambers. Her father gives the genie a box and heeds him to give it to her. It contains the only thing that will set her free from the king.
Emma and Sidney break into Regina’s office to find proof that will connect her to Mr. Gold’s land. Somehow Emma is able to hack into her computer and transfer files to her drive. As she is rummaging through her filing cabinet, Emma finds a large ring with tons of old-fashioned keys. Suddenly, Regina rushes into her office. Emma quickly comes up with some story that kids broke into the building, and Sidney was there because he was a witness.
The genie rushes into Regina’s rooms with the box. She tells him that the king will soon discover them. He shows her the box and reassures her that her freedom lies within that box. She opens it, and two snake heads slither out. The snakes are the most poisonous in all of Agrabah, and the queen knows what she must do to gain her freedom. She reaches out her hand for the snakes to bite, but he grabs it and says, “There is another way. What if the king didn’t live?”
Henry hastily writes down all he can remember from his lost book, and the Stranger enters. Henry asks him why he is in Storybrooke. He can write anywhere. There is some other reason he is here.
Emma and Sidney pour over blueprints of some building Regina is planning on building in the woods. They discover her name on the “missing” money transfer documents. Suddenly, Emma feels very guilty. They had stooped to Regina’s level. They obtained evidence illegally. Sidney pulls out a box filled with pictures of Emma and Henry together. Regina had made Sidney follow them. All she wants to do is to hurt Emma. Sidney felt guilty, so he had to tell Emma. If Emma doesn’t do anything to expose her, Sidney will.
In the middle of the city council meeting, Sidney and Emma tell everyone that Regina stole funds for the city and used them to build a new house in the woods. Regina retorts and says she’s building a playhouse. She found a drawing in one of her son’s books and is basing the playhouse off of that drawing.
During the night, the genie brings the box to the king’s room and sets the snakes loose on his bed. The genie stands over him, and the king awakens in time to see him. Just as he is about to speak, the snakes appear on either side of his neck and bite him. He then proceeds to tell him all about Regina and the mirror. The king then dies.
Regina confronts Emma about what had happened. Emma accuses her of tampering with the brakes, and Regina warns her to stay away from her and Henry. She wants to get a restraining order.
At the new playground, Henry is excited to see Emma, but she stays far away in her car. Emma tells him about Regina not wanting her to see him. She promises to find his book, which we then find out that the Stranger has.
The genie excitedly tells Regina that the deed is done, and that they can finally be together, but Regina doesn’t look too happy. She tells him that the guards found out that it was the genie that killed the king, and he has to flee or he will be executed. He accuses her of setting the whole thing up. She admits that all she wanted was for the king to be dead. He is of no use to her anymore. But he still has his one wish. He wishes to be with her forever, to look upon her face all day; he disappears in a cloud of smoke, and we hear him screaming for help. He is trapped inside the mirror.
Sidney sits in Regina’s office. We discover that he is not really Emma’s ally after all. Sidney set her up. He was the one that cut her brakes. Regina is so evil! Big surprise there!!
