Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

By: Rose B. March 9, 2012
Movie Reviews, TV News Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel of the same name. In this historical work of fiction brought to life, our 16th President Abraham Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. It’s said that the film will mix numerous historical parts of the American Civil War with the book’s rich “vampire hunter” imaginery.

I personally love historical fiction. I write historical fiction. There’s nothing quite like it.

From all the previews and photos I have seen so far, this movie looks quite fun. Just the idea of Abe Lincoln being at war with vampires makes me grin ear to ear. I have not read the book that this movie is based from yet, however I have downloaded it to my Kindle and I’m looking forward to reading it.

Benjamin Walker, who plays Abe Lincoln, heads the cast which includes: Robin McLeavy (Nancy, Lincoln’s mother), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Mary Todd Lincoln, Lincoln’s wife), Dominic Cooper (Henry Sturges, Lincoln’s mentor in vampire hunting), Rufus Sewell (lead vampire Adam), and Anthony Mackie (William Johnson, Lincoln’s valet and friend).

The film is directed by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov and is produced by him & the one and only Tim Burton. The novel’s author, Seth Grahame-Smith, wrote the adapted screenplay. Anticipation Level: 4/5

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22, 2012
