For months we have wondered what happen after Tom stepped on that ship. What will become of the 2nd mass and what about Toms 3 sons, how will they coupe with him being gone? Hal must become the adult, Ben is still fighting for his own humanity and Matt just wants it all to be normal again. Matt also wants to help where he can. Its a lot to keep up with. Weaver is likely not to take Toms absence too well and after watching the first 3 minutes of the season 2 opener we get an idea of just how things have changed, most differently is Ben. Just how large of a hold do they have over Ben?

Dark Horse Comics began working with TNT over a year ago, publishing a free webcomic prequel to Falling Skies. The inaugural comic quickly sold out and was a fan favorite in advance of the series premiere. The digital comic series, Falling Skies: The Battle of Fitchburg, chronicles what happens to the Second Mass in the three months between when season one ends and season two picks up.

Falling Skies: The Battle of Fitchburg will be released as free eight-page, biweekly comics featuring art by Juan Ferreyra (Rex Mundi) and scripts by Paul Tobin (Marvel Adventures: Fantastic Four, Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man).

We read the first 10 pages and it sets up an interesting look at the 2nd mass, Dai, Hal, Weaver and Ben. Ben is still not very confident in himself and wants to help. Weaver doesn’t want him to help, saying he is too young. But what about Jimmy? I don’t think Weaver fully trusts Ben, but can you blame him? The aliens are pushing hard, and something I noticed with Ben shows up again in this first look at the comic. Dai is always getting hurt but is also a trooper and gets the news to the 2nd mass quickly. The setup is great, the situation dire, but how will everyone handle the new offensive by the skitters? Rating so far on the first 10 pages is a 5/5.
