The Raven brings you into a dark murder mystery as a young Baltimore detective attempts to find a serial killer with the assistance of the man who inspired the murders.

In 19th century Baltimore, soon after Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) begins investigating a series of gruesome murders, he discovers an eerie similarity to the horrific tales described in the local newspaper. Believing the writer of these stories to be responsible, Detective Fields brings Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack) in for questioning. While detained, another grisly slaying takes place, urging Detective Fields to use the man who wrote the stories to solve the mystery.

Here is the trailer:

Edgar Allan Poe has been one of my favorite authors since I was required to read “The Cask of Amontillado” in high school. His dark, twisted stories filled with gory details were always intriguing and often hard to put down. So when I first heard about this film and that John Cusack – one of my favorite actors – was slated to play the esteemed Edgar Allan Poe, I couldn’t wait to see it.

I had recently been disappointed in finding the long-awaited Dark Shadows had been turned into nothing more than another dramatic-TV-show-to-ridiculous-comedy movie adaptation, so I was thrilled to see that The Raven has stuck to the darkness one would expect from anything about Edgar Allan Poe. I can only hope that this movie is what the trailer makes it out to be and leaves my need for thrilling, gory suspense satisfied.

The Raven hits theaters April 27th…give you one guess where I’ll be that weekend!
