Sure, they’re dead and cold, but there’s no denying zombies are hot right now. The Walking Dead is a runaway hit, World War Z is coming to theaters next summer, and there are plenty of indie shorts on the internet each dealing with zombies in a slightly different way. Usually the cannibalistic creepies are reanimated, shambling corpses, although sometimes, such as in I Am Legend, they’re still living and quite speedy. But that’s neither here nor there, the real point is…OMG Zombies!
Just when you thought the subject had been covered from every conceivable angle, along comes Warm Bodies. It’s a romantic comedy about a zombie and the girl of his dreams. Yes folks, someone has gone and invented the ZomRomCom. Sort of a mix of While You Were Sleeping and Sean of the Dead, this movie could easily be called While You Were Dead.
A funny new twist on a classic love story, WARM BODIES is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human – setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.
The trailer, via Deadline.com, makes Warm Bodies look like it could be pretty good, but that’s really the point of trailers, isn’t it? This idea is going to either be very clever or fall on its ashen face. I’m hoping it’s more Sean of the Dead and less Zombie Strippers! in quality. Take a gander at the trailer below and tell me what you think.
Warm Bodies is currently scheduled for release on February 1, 2013.
