“There’s Going to be Hell to Pay”

*SPOILERS*– A roller coaster from the first panel, Ghost #3 offers up answers to mystery’s past and delivers new questions unfolding with every page.

21556

Vaughn Barnes, an ex reporter, finds himself in a room with the psychotic Dr. October.  The box, used to bring “Ghost” into this world, is clutched in her black gloved hands.  She tells of the box’s past, explaining how it can bring phantoms into this world, but at a price.  For each spirit brought into this world, another must be returned, the work of the Devil himself! The eerie air of Dr. October, complete with a piercing eye and wild grin, just adds to the scenes of suspense.  Vaughn tries to bargain with October, but she has already chosen him as a “host”.

The mystery of the box has finally been figured out, but there are still few answers as to why “Ghost” or as we discover, Elisa, was brought back to this realm.  We learn a little of Elisa’s past life, by being introduced to her sister Margo.  Some clues are given to how this mess may have happened.  Elisa is attending the mayor’s, a.k.a the Devil’s, birthday bash and she appears in the last page wearing the outfit she sports as “Ghost”.  Is this birthday bash the cause of her demise?  Why does the Devil target her?  I know I can’t wait to find out!

The artwork, by Phil Noto, masterfully brings Kelly Sue Deconnick’s words to life. Each panel is flawless and makes my, already tremendous, love for this medium grow more and more!
