So, tonight we see the return of Once Upon after a couple of months of break. In my last episode review, I praised Once Upon a Time for neatly wrapping some plot threads up at the last minute of the mid-season finale episode. Emma and Snow (seemingly) roundly defeat Cora and Hook; Snow awakens David from the sleeping curse he was under and they are reunited with the obligatory “You found me! I will always find you!” lines; Regina is (again, seemingly) fully redeemed as she risks her own life to absorb the magics that would have torn Emma and Snow apart in the portal; Mulan brings Aurora back her heart. So, basically you could say that the theme of the mid-season break was “reunion” or possibly “redemption”.
But, of course, new stories popped up and the groundwork for new quests was laid. As I mentioned previously in my recent review, the mid-season finale ended with Cora and Hook sailing into the port in Storybrooke, having used the waters of Lake Nostos to bring life back to the magic bean Hook stole from the giant earlier in the season. We can expect the reunion between Regina and Cora to be explosive (probably literally). Though I think it may be extra interesting cause it seems like Cora has gone crazy and her stated reason for traveling to Our World is because Regina needs her help. In the publicly released promo trailer, we see Hook and Rumple fighting on the deck of Hook’s ship. Hook taunts Rumple with “What magic will you use to save yourself this time?” and Rumple attempts to hit him with his cane, which leads me to wonder if Hook somehow took away his magic.
In some clips released to the press, (hey! That’s me! Neat!) we see some intriguing possibilities. Without going into too much detail cause I’m not sure if I’m supposed to, we see the beginnings of Emma warming up to Regina after she risked her life to help Emma and Snow return to Our World, which doesn’t make everybody else too happy. But alas, we also see some signs that Regina may not be as rehabilitated as we think. It appears we also finally see the resolution of the war between Regina and the Snow and Charming in the Enchanted Forest before the curse that has spanned two seasons of flashbacks.
So, it should be a great episode. While it isn’t in the promos, I can only assume we will see a reunion between Emma and Neal, Henry’s father, in the 2nd half of the season. Hold on to your hats folks, should be a wild ride from here on out!
