We’re almost at the end of The Walking Dead‘s mostly excellent season three. With only one episode left to go and plenty of conflict having been teased, the finale “Welcome to the Tombs,” has some pretty big shoes to fill. I don’t think it’ll disappoint.
As usual, AMC has released two still images for the upcoming episode. In the picture above Carl’s checking out his father’s badge (obviously). Is he contemplating putting it on to go with the hat or just remembering better days?
The second picture released (below) shows Rick squatting in the woods. I’m glad he’s holding a gun or I’d be wondering if he wasn’t, you know, making like a bear.
I suppose he’s lying in wait to ambush the Governor or some of his goons, or maybe he’s retreating from the forces that have his group heavily outgunned. There’s a hand behind and to his right that doesn’t look very lively so he may have just taken out a walker or maybe one of the Woodbury attack squad.
The promotional video definitely makes it look like a huge fight is going to happen. This time I don’t think there’s any misdirection or any delay in the melee’. This is the finale so I’m pretty sure there will be a lot of stuff blowing up and a lot of people dying.
The first sneak peek adds some context to the first picture of Carl where he’s holding Rick’s badge. It looks like people are packing their things and Carl takes a moment to reminisce about life before everything went to crap.
In the second sneak peek we see the Governor and the Goon Squad forcing their way into the prison. They’ve got that magic truck that the Governor used to track Andrea back in “Prey” and it looks like the razor wire our heroes set down didn’t do squat to the tires.
So they’re methodically tearing their way into the prison to kill Rick and company. The place is looking pretty abandoned as we’re not shown a single one of Rick’s group. Have they retreated? Are they lying in wait to ambush the intruders? Did they head over to Woodbury to attack the town while it’s undefended and missing most of its population?
All these questions and more will be answered when the finale airs on AMC this Sunday at 9/8c!
