We’ve still got a bit of a wait for the next episode of Doctor Who, but BBC America has released 23 sneak peek images for you to peruse.  Entitled “Cold War” this episode sees the long absence of the formidable and terrifying Ice Warriors come to an end.

These are no 2-dimensional “monsters” and really never have been.  The Ice Warriors have played both friend and foe of the Doctor and there’s a depth and history to these hissing, armor-plated Martians.  What relationship will the Ice Warriors have with the Doctor this time around?  I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you this episode was very intense and my favorite of the new run.

Stories that take place aboard submarines are, for all intents and purposes, spaceship-bound stories.  From the usually cramped quarters to the complete dependency on a self-contained atmospheric system, all the basic elements of submarine life are the same as that of a spaceship.  It’s that closed space surrounded by a hostile environment that really gets to me, but in a good way.

Episode Synopsis:

The Doctor and Clara land on a damaged Russian Submarine in 1983 as it spirals out of control into the ocean depths. An alien creature is loose on board, having escaped from a block of Arctic ice. With tempers flaring and a cargo of nuclear weapons on board, it’s not just the crew but the whole of humanity at stake!
