Well, it’s the finale, and that means somebody is going to die (or get resurrected, or both), Silas is around, Katherine isn’t going anywhere, and there’s a cure to be given out. Finale time in Mystic Falls, hang on tight.
Remember how Bonnie’s dead? She’d still like to go to graduation, death can wait. And, because she’s Bonnie Bennett, it works out that way, for a little bit.
The graduating class of Mystic Falls is small, as in ‘Sunnydale’ small. Everybody who’s there is just thrilled they lived to walk across the stage. But, it’s not that easy.
Katherine is ticked off that she isn’t immortal, and every bad guy is threatening to blow something up. It turns out that if Bonnie drops the expression triangle, anybody who’s dead and was involved in it will be able to come back. Unsurprisingly, their ghosts want Bonnie to bring them back. Even though that would resurrect her too, Bonnie tells Kol (one of the unquiet dead) that it’s not going to happen.
Alaric Saltzman is, dead or not, always a badass, and he would have liked Damon to take the cure for werewolf venom, but well, sometimes you can’t make your best friend do something, and you just have to toss somebody over a waterfall for them instead. Fortunately, Damon is saved, and Alaric doesn’t have to yell at Damon from the same side of the veil for all eternity.
Klaus proves that nearly anything can be used as a tool for decapitation, including a commencement cap. Apparently he’s been watching James Bond movies in his spare time. And, besides showing up when he was invited by Caroline and causing trouble, he gives Tyler back. He still does want to be the vampire/hybrid in her life, but he’s willing to wait. So there’s some growth on his part. Insidious growth, it happens to pretty much anybody who ends up in this town.
Bonnie tells Jeremy to pass along a message to Elena and Caroline: she’s spending the summer with her Grams. Then she walks off into the mists with Grams.
Matt survives, everybody who was placing bets on him dying in the finale will have to hold out until next year. In the meantime, he’s going to have a decent summer vacation, for once in his life. Enjoy it while it lasts. And, for the time being, he gets to go on a road trip with Rebekah. That should be interesting.
Being turned to stone isn’t the barrier it used to be, and Silas comes back because Bonnie died. He becomes Stefan’s doppelganger and then throws Stefan in a safe and then chucks that into the ocean. This is kind of like Angel: the series, and that worked out so well there too. Basically, Silas is walking around as Stefan, so it’s like Stefan went evil again, only not really, and Silas obviously has ongoing plans for the town.
Elena and Katherine fight, and Elena is stabbed in the neck. In the process, she shoves the cure in Katherine’s mouth. Whoops.
And, the cure goes to: Katherine Petrova. A decision that won’t end in tears for anybody! Well, on another show it wouldn’t, but this is TVD!
Lexi and Alaric are the BFFs of the Salvatores, which sometimes means hauling their butts out of trouble (Lexi does this for Stefan, mostly) or defending them, and the local bar (Alaric does this for Damon, and well, it’s his bar)
Bonnie and Jeremy might still get together, after all, Jeremy can see dead people. Or, it could all go wrong (again).
Elena can feel again, this is a good thing, and she and Caroline are back together as friends, although they’re down one friend.
Jeremy is alive, but Bonnie is dead. She got what she wanted, but never was able to enjoy it. But, since this Mystic Falls, she’s not going anywhere. There are people she loves that she’s going to protect, and that’s good for them, and bad for anything that comes to Mystic Falls looking to hurt her friends.
