Hey everyone Åndrew here with another Under the Dome recap and review. Sorry about the late post today. I was really busy and kept getting interrupted. I just want to let you all know in advance that I will be gone next week. I am moving to California so I won’t be able to write next week’s review until 2 weeks from today. So please hang in there. I promise I will get it to you though. Now without further ado I shall begin.
We start out with Joe showing Norrie the massive amounts of butterflies on the Dome. Norrie comments that they aren’t even supposed to be in this area.
In the bunker Jim doesn’t free Angie. He leaves to find Coggins in his driveway. Coggins tells him God has told him one word MOAB and that it is a place in the bible. Jim leaves and Coggins ear piece buzzes.
Along the perimeter Joe and Norrie find more butterflies. Barbie joins them. They see buses with the families of the people under the Dome being shuttled in. At the radio station Julia tells the citizens about the families and where to see them.
At Jim’s house Jim is waiting for Junior to get home. Junior arrives and Jim stops him from going to bunker and tells him to go to recruit more deputies.
At the perimeter of the Dome Barbie sets up caution tape. Linda goes up to the Dome and kisses her husband. In the Radio station Julia hears a transmission, “Zone one painted, green for 1315.” Phil and Julia don’t know what that means.
Back at the perimeter people have fully gathered. News broadcasters are recording. Norrie meets her dad for the first time which was a shock. Coggins tells everyone they are sinners. Jim takes him away to talk to him. Coggins tells Jim he has one day to come clean to God and the town or he will do it for him. Norrie’s moms show up and see her dad. Norrie tells her mom’s she hates them and storms off. Julia’s sister in law shows her a goodbye letter from her husband. Linda then tells her husband his brother is dead.
Under a bridge Joe catches up to Norrie. Ben arrives moments later to tell them that China had threatened to attack, but the president calmed them down.
Back at the Dome Barbie gets a soldier to talk and has Dodee read the soldiers lips. He finds out that the military is pulling out and that they received their orders after the butterflies arrived. Barbie connects the dots between the butterflies, the military pulling out, and Coggins saying MOAB. The two of them tell Jim, Linda, and Julia about the MOAB. Julia tells Barbie of the broadcast. He tells them the MOAB will hit at 1315 military time. They decide to try to get everyone to the cement factory.
Julia goes to the radio station and tells everyone that a MOAB will be inbound and to get to shelter. In the bunker Jim decides to free Angie.
In the cement factory Barbie tells Julia that on tour in Iraq his company killed everyone in a friendly company except one. “Maybe this is how I deserve to go, more friendly fire,” he states.
Junior arrives home and is told by Jim that he has freed Angie. Junior gets in his cruiser and speeds off. At the radio station Phil is gathering some music to play in case they don’t survive. Angie arrives home to find Junior waiting for her.
In the cement factory Linda asks Jim where Junior is. He tells her he is tying up loose ends. Linda leaves and tells him the same thing. Phil plays Beethoven for everyone. Barbie gives him the watch he took from him and tells him he is leaving that line of work.
Junior plays the broadcast for Angie. She then embraces him and he lays his head in her lap.
Back at the Cement factory Barbie is about to tell Julia something when Norrie’s moms arrive asking if anyone has seen Norrie or Joe. Julia and Barbie leave out a secrete entrance to look for them.
We then go to a street where Joe and Norrie are running yelling Angie’s name. Joe tells Norrie to go back, but she insists on staying.
In the Cement factory Phil and Dodee dance. They tell each other they hate each other and then hold hands and continue to dance.
Along the water Joe and Angie sit down realizing it is too late. They watch the MOAB get closer to the Dome. Norrie asks what they are going to do. They then kiss as the MOAB hits. At the perimeter of the Dome Julia and Barbie look at the destruction outside of it. Barbie puts his hand forward to confirm the Dome is still there. The two of them then hold hands. At yet another part of the Dome Jim is looking outward when Coggins arrives. Coggins threatens him again so Jim pushes Coginns’s head into the Dome killing him.
Let’s see. Where should I begin? This was for starters a good episode; however, there were something’s I didn’t like. I would have liked to see a bigger explosion when the MOAB went off, but that is because I like explosions. And come on, the green screen effect of the destruction was pretty weak. It was not hard to tell they were using a green screen.
Something that caught my attention was the fact that they went into the tunnels of the Cement factory. In an earlier episode it was stated that the tunnels were extremely dangerous and unstable, so why would they go in there if a MOAB was about to go off. Aside from the fact that there really is no safe place to hide from a MOAB (I have tried hiding from them in MW3. It doesn’t work) the ceiling would have collapsed killing them all.
Ahh the Government. They would do anything to save their skinny, no good, slimy, dirty rotten… Ok I’m done but the point is still the same. The fact that the government would willingly us a weapon of mass destruction on their own citizens is appalling. However, this is the United States we are talking about so I wouldn’t put it past them. But really? The Dome affects the magnetic flow and the government’s first idea is to use a MOAB. I am actually glad that it didn’t work. The government deserves to have to work for a solution.
There were several very corny things that happened in this episode as well. First off did Phil and Dodee really have to dance? I mean, they think they are about to die and they are like, “Let’s dance.” And then they tell each other they hate each other in an ‘I love you tone’. I was actually yelling at my computer. And then there was the final scene with Joe and Norrie. I was thinking that the dome would protect them given that they are, from my point of view, special to the Dome. But it didn’t happen in the way I imagined it. I can safely say I wasn’t at all surprised when the two of them kissed. Given the situation it was acceptable. They thought they were going to die and they liked each other, so why not. The line right before the kiss was pretty lame though. Norrie -“What are we going to do?” Both of them in their heads – “Uhh, there is nothing we can do. Let’s kiss maybe that will save us.” There is one thing though that was interesting about them kissing. They didn’t seize. This leads me to speculate that the Dome was focused on repelling the blast and not on the two of them, which has me thinking of another possibility of what the Dome could be. What if it isn’t a thing? What if it’s an entity? Riddle me that on Batman.
Something else that will eventually blow up (metaphorically speaking of course) is the apparent relationship between Barbie and Julia. We go from Julia never wanting to see him again. To the two of them teaming up and then holding hands. Now this will end one of two ways when she finds out about what happened to her husband. 1.) She will hate Barbie and never want to see him again… again. Or 2.) She will forgive Barbie and not be made at him because of how much she hates her husband now. Hopefully they stay together though. I think they would make a cute couple.
I know I had a lot of negative comments about this episode in both storyline and editing, but overall I still really enjoyed it. From a viewers’ perspective, it was interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable. Well that is all for now. Leave a comment in the section below of what you thought about this episode. Do you think I am right to guess that the Dome is alive? Also, what do you think will happen to Angie? Will Junior just let her go since they are not dead? Or will he kill her? Till next time and don’t forget to watch an all new Under the Dome next Monday on CBS at 10/9 C.
