Down the Rabbit Hole with Once Upon a Time

Hello folks! There has been a lot of exciting news lately for both Once Upon a Time and it’s new spinoff series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Both casting, teases and more information is being announced quite frequently.

When we last left Once Upon a Time, there was a lot going on and a lot of unanswered questions. A bleeding and unconscious Neal aka Baelfire (as I predicted in a previous review) was dropped in the middle of a reunited group of Mulan, Princess Aurora and Aurora’s once lost love Prince Phillip. Storybrooke had just been saved from destruction via Regina’s magical doomsday trigger. Henry had been kidnapped by secret magical hating agents Tamara and Greg, ostensibly to be bundled off and taken to the shadowy Peter Pan in Neverland. The Storybrooke crew gets ready to set sail to Neverland with Captain Hook to rescue Henry.

Series creators have stated that season 3 will flow similar to season 2. What amounts to two 11-episode seasons within one overall story arc. They have also said that there will be less long breaks this season, with the first 11 episodes focusing on the quest to rescue Henry from Neverland.

Lots of casting and other news has come out for season 3 focusing on Neverland. We will be meeting mermaids, but these aren’t your childhood Disney mermaids. Lana Parrilla describes them as “beautiful, full-bodied and not the nicest mermaids. They’re more like sirens.” JoAnna Garcia Swisher of Animal Practice, Gossip Girls and Royal Pains has been cast to play a darker Ariel (The Little Mermaid) than we may have seen in the childhood animated film. New Zealand actress Rose McIver has been cast as Tinkerbell, whom series creators have revealed will have a surprising connection to a familiar character, and will appear in several episodes.

We also learn that Regina has a connection with the erstwhile Robin Hood, who will now be played by Sean Maguire of Eastenders and Scott & Bailey. Maguire replaces Tom Ellis of Miranda, also notable for his role on BBC’s Merlin where he played Cenred, who previously played Robin Hood in season 2.

With season 3 fast approaching, it is shaping up to be an exicting time for Once Upon a Time fans. Keep an eye out for more Once Upon a Time casting news and an article on the spinoff series, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland!
