First there was the amazing prequel with Paul McGann, The Night of the Doctor, followed by the amazinger 50th Anniversary Special The Day of the Doctor. So, what could follow all that amazingly amazing amazingness, you might ask? Why, that would be the amazingest 2013 Christmas Special that’s been given the title The Time of the Doctor, that’s what.
Judging by the picture above, there’s definitely going to be Cybermen and the Silence in the mix. The teaser trailer for the special hints that Daleks, Weeping Angels, and Trenzalore all play a crucial role in the episode. Since it’s a Christmas episode there’s about a 100% chance of snowfall, too.
It’s going to be fun, but also sad because the Christmas Special marks the departure of Matt Smith. We know he’ll go out in style and as good Whovians we’re all prepared to welcome Peter Capaldi as the twelfth Doctor.
Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them—the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.
If you haven’t seen the very, very short teaser trailer for the Doctor Who 2013 Christmas Special I’ve embedded it because I like you.
