Helix, the new sci-fi thriller from Syfy about a strange outbreak at an Arctic research facility, has been compared to The Thing, and judging by what’s been seen that’s a fair comparison. There’s a lot more than a passing resemblance to the series of films, but the nature of the threat looks to be somewhat different. Either way, the idea of a claustrophobic thriller is an exciting one with both the news and video from the upcoming series promising one hell of a story.
Clocking in at less than a minute and a half, calling this an “extended trailer” is pushing it a little, but in comparison to the first it’s a true enough statement.
Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation…or total annihilation.
Premiering in January 2014, Helix is the product of some of the biggest names in genre television, starting with Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica). Also Executive Producing are Lynda Obst (Contact) and Steven Maeda (Lost, CSI: Miami, The X-Files).
Helix premieres Friday, January 10 at 10/9c on Syfy.
