Doctor Who News: Peter Capaldi’s New Costume Revealed

This just in.  I’ve always wanted to say that, haven’t you?  Alright, enough of my nonsense.  On to the news!

The BBC just released this single image of Peter Capaldi in his new “official” costume as the Doctor.  The costume definitely has a classic feel and is slightly reminiscent of Patrick Troughton’s outfit.  I like the extra flair of having a red liner in his coat.  Something about that gives me the image of a magician or illusionist, which is definitely an aspect of the Doctor’s personality.

It’s not fancy, outrageous, quirky, or odd in any way.  This is a straight-up and serious costume for what has been hinted at as a more serious, or as it was stated, “fierce”, Doctor.

Here’s a quote from the BBC’s announcement:

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”  While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”
