*SPOILER ALERT, IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE EPISODE, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK*.
It feels like we were just getting prepared for the winter premiere and yet here we are, ready to discuss the amazing ending to one of the most mindbending seasons ever. If you thought you were ready for what the writers had to throw at you, you’d be dead wrong…so let’s jump into the season 3B finale!
To start off, was it the most spectacular season finale we’ve ever seen? NO. Was it the season finale we needed for the characters to be able to implement whatever tricks of their own? YES. They had already done and lost so much at this point that it was basically a drag to the finish between our beloved characters and the Nogitsune. The relevance of the game of Go was truly apparent as the Nogitsune made its way towards its final move to win the game. The Nogitsune sent its Oni after each and every one of the alliances that were fighting the hard battle. Derek, Ethan, and Aiden were ready to deal with the Nogitsune and Oni one on one with the help of the Triskele box they needed to trap the spirit of the Nogitsune. Scott, Kira, Lydia, and Stiles searched for answers wherever they could by going to Deaton and eventually the school for the final showdown. Isaac and Papa Argent teamed up to uncover whatever it was that Allison wanted Scott to tell her father before she slipped away. The Oni arrived at the sheriff’s station, the hospital, and the animal clinic where multiple people were killed but more importantly Ms. McCall, Deaton, and the sheriff were all slashed with the Oni’s sword which contained a poison. The Nogitsune then told Stiles that he would make his best friend kill him before it was all over.
Isaac and Papa Argent figure out how Allison was able to kill the Oni. She used a silver arrow, similar to how Argent used a silver bullet so many years before to shatter the Oni’s mask, but she managed to kill it by making the arrow stay in its body.Thankfully she had only used one of six arrow she made before dying leaving Isaac and Papa Argent to take off with the rest to help Derek and the twins. They successfully killed the remaining Oni but not before one of them then stabbed Aiden in the stomach, killing him. The rest was up to Scott to bite him, expelling the Nogitsune from the form of Stiles as Kira stabbed him and Isaac capturing the spirit in the Triskele box. The Nogitsune-Stiles then fell to the ground and disappeared into dust. The final move made by Scott and the gang was known as the “Divine Move” or the rarest move that can be made in the game of Go.
Stiles proceeded to collapse as the Nogitsune-Stiles perished but it was all okay as he was simply recovering from the force of the Nogitsune finally being conquered. However, it wasn’t all fun and games following the conclusion of the showdown. Argent still had to face his biggest heartache yet and it seemed that Isaac was ready to stand by his side every step of the way. Kira and Lydia are friends but Lydia has still just lost the best friend she’s ever had while Scott has lost the love of his life up to that point. Meanwhile, Ethan set his mind on breaking up with Danny (who returned the notion as he told him he “wasn’t sure he could date a werewolf”) following the death of his brother. Danny seriously deserves more screen time as he not only figured out that Ethan was a werewolf but owned it all up to “Dude, it’s Beacon Hills”. Finally someone recognized just how creepy that whole town is!
Teen Wolf writers had one more trick up their sleeve though as Derek described an encounter to Stiles he had with hunters breaking into his loft and inquiring about the “she-wolf”. Derek believed they were asking about Cora but as it turns out, even Derek wasn’t prepared for the return of one of the most sadistic villains the show has had: Kate Argent. She didn’t die after all (as a lot of characters seem to have a hard time staying dead) but rather was turned when her throat was slashed by Peter Hale. Ummm, anyone else seeing this turn out really bad for oh, EVERYONE next season? Oh, and let’s not forget that Malia is the newest student of Beacon Hills High. Looks like Stiles will also FINALLY get some action and Malia will be able to hone her skills with the help of Scott.
Season 3B has brought together some of the most unlikely alliances any of us could have seen coming and also torn apart some of the longest relationships we’ve had the pleasure of viewing. I feel as though the best way to describe the emotions of the characters at this point is when Scott sits at the kitchen table in his house and his mom walks up and just hugs him. There’s no words, no actions, no expression but to cry and just take it all in day by day. They’ve all got a long road ahead but at the same time they’ve all got each other to lean on and grow from. They’ve all had to take on a dark wrath through season 3B but from it there’s been a lot of character development and room for new opportunities. The season finale didn’t need to be an outrageous blend of CGI and plot twists because the season as a whole took care of every facet of emotion we love about this show. The writers let the show take care of itself without forcing the issue to the final minute. Also, Dylan O’Brien was given a lot of creative freedom to work in a duel role and he pulled it off PERFECTLY. No one can say that the actors on this show aren’t talented, but Dylan O’Brien deserves MAJOR props for all the work he did playing two entirely different entities. I think we can all agree that we’re excited to see the old Stiles back though, he and his shenanigans have been dearly missed! There’s a lot to look forward to in the next season but before we head off, thank you to all the fans of Teen Wolf for being so loyal as well as the writers for giving us entertaining television again. Teen Wolf is a very rare show that we’ve had the pleasure to be a part of simply by being an audience. And finally, thank you to Robert Prentice and Three If By Space for giving me the opportunity to write for such an amazing show.
Oh, and Season 4 of Teen Wolf is set to air JUNE 23, 2014! How excited are you for the next season?
