Edge of Tomorrow will premiere in theaters Friday, June 06 and it’s got a nice, futuristic scifi presence with time travel included, though not with the assistance of a certain blue box. In the film, the Earth is under attack from a nearly unbeatable alien race and somehow our protagonists get caught in a “Groundhog Day” time loop. This is a good thing, though, because with each new loop the fighters get a little better at battling the invasion.
Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt headline the flick, with Cruise playing the part of a military officer who’s never seen combat and Blunt as an experienced Special Forces fighter. Together, they’ve got to continue looping to get the experience they need to defeat the aliens.
The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
The first of 2 newly-released trailers is simply called “Official Main Trailer” and we’re given a pretty good idea of what’s going on in the movie without being spoiled.
Released just a couple of days before is a 22 second teaser trailer. It doesn’t give away a lot, but it’s sure fun to watch.
