Continuum 3×10 Review- “Revolutions Per Minute”

By: Lisa Rushing June 18, 2014
TV Reviews Continuum, syfy, SyFy Channel

“Revolutions Per Minute” got right what a lot of this season has been missing- bond, alliance, and most of all: CAUSE. It’s been a mystery to me what the show had been working towards until now when each and every alliance seemingly formed was either shattered or led to build new bridges. Several important developments occurred that have finally pushed the season in the right direction- forward!

Picking up where the last episode left off, Green Kiera’s body has been taken from its spot where Alec was last seen drilling in to her. Carlos, knowing the only other person who knew her position was Alec, confronts him over the matter and Alec (whether genuine or caniving is unknown) says it’s all so that they can give her a proper send-off. Carlos, with not much choice in the matter, goes along with not realizing that Green Alec of course has ulterior motives. Alec’s plan for the funeral service is all a ruse so that he can hide the fact that he extracted Green Kiera’s CMR from her body. Is there a therapist in the house for this kid? He’s OFFICIALLY gone off the deep end…To make matters worse, Green Alec watches the full playback from Green Kiera’s CMR which reveals one VERY important detail: Curtis Chen was not the person to murder Green Kiera, but John Doe was. Upon hearing that Green Alec has planned a funeral of sorts for the deceased Kiera, Red Kiera attends only to realize that her other self’s CMR is missing. She naturally confronts Green Alec about this and feeling angered at being called out for it, he hides the detail of John Doe’s deception from her. Could this be the final push Kiera needs to realize that the future she needs to get back to her son lies with Red Alec? Green Alec is proving ruthless and not at all like the Alec needed for the future.

Kiera and Carlos FINALLY worked together to bring down the one common enemy that has never changed: Liber8. To beat Liber8 they would need to be one step ahead, so they decide to look into other companies that could be a potential target for their tyranny. They find their answer in a company named Gautuma. The same company where Inspector Dillon’s daughter, as a plant, is working inside Liber8 to uncover secrets. Kiera doesn’t take well to the idea of him placing his daughter in such perilous hands and takes the matter into her own by publically extracting Christine and therefore blowing any cover (and safety) she may have had before. The company she was working in, Gautuma, is working on an advanced Alzheimer’s drug but Kiera fears it is a dangerous drug from the future called “Flash”, the same drug Liber8 introduced nearly a year beforehand. Kiera, with the use of her CMR, goes invisible and is able to detain three samples of the drug, one of which she gives to Carlos, one to keep so she can have it tested, and one to give to John Doe so that she might uncover his true purpose and identity.

Kiera also struck a deal with Kellogg to work together to bring down Gautuma and the “miracle drug” Flash. As they’re working together, Kellogg appears at Kiera’s apartment much to the awe of John Doe. John Doe appears to recognize Kellogg as a very important character from the future and in passing makes a comment that could be proving disastrous for everyone’s futures. Kiera asks if Kellogg is a bigger deal than Alec Sadler to which he replies, “Who is Alec Sadler?”.

Jason and Alec also worked together on Alec’s HALO device. Jason, feeling as though he’s under a haze, agrees to test the product out with varying degrees of results. Initially he gets positive feedback from the project until near the end of the episode when he begins to experience dangerous side effects as a result of the HALO device.

Finally, finally, FINALLY Continuum moves in the right direction as we enter the final stretch of this season (has this season flown by or what)? It’s been a bit slow these last few episode but I have to admit, the addition of Ryan Robbins as well as so many new developments really gives the end stretch the great boost it needs to keep us fans interested. So exactly what does all that happened mean for our beloved characters? Kiera, unknowingly, is faced with a new enemy that only Green Alec is now aware of. Will he do what’s right and drop his emotions in order to keep her alive or will she be left to uncover this new threat on her own? What is John Doe’s end agenda with Kiera? He’s already taken down one Kiera, is he now out to destroy the other? Kellogg is now a bigger deal in the future than Alec Sadler, is that not setting off alarm bells in everyone’s minds?! The future may have been irreversibly changed leading Kellogg to be a bigger danger to the future than even Alec is at this point! Kiera has a lot of work to do if she expects to get the future turned around in time to save everyone. What are your thoughts on “Revolutions Per Minute”? Was it a step in the right direction or not?
