The deeper the deceptions run and the more change that seems to be brought to the future all leads us to one important conclusion: DON’T MESS WITH TIME TRAVEL TO SAVE THE GIRL. Got it? GOOD. Now we can move on to the highlights of tonight’s episode “3 Minutes to Midnight”.
First off, Kiera and Liber8 will forever be sworn enemies right? Maybe? No? Alrighty then…Kiera and Liber8 find themselves on the same side of the line for once as they are both faced with a shocking development and enemy threat to everything they’ve worked for past, present, and future. John Doe and Kiera are kidnapped by Liber8 where they are able to pull out of John Doe (only after shooting Kiera in the foot) that he has been sent from the future- 30 years in the future to be exact. He is sent back to prevent a future that is formed in the year 2014, meaning something even more dangerous than before lies ahead of them all. John Does is revealed to be Brad Tonkin, sent back in time by a future Kellogg. Liber8 seems to believe they have acquired a victory in the future but then it is revealed that Curtis Chen is still alive, meaning they might not have been so lucky in the future after all.
Kiera is now realizing not only what this Brad Tonkin now remembers as well as that she may be losing the future that she and the freelancers were supposed to be working for. Liber8 also needs time to process this information that the future has officially been changed leaving Kiera and Brad to escape from their clutches. After all, Lucas puts it best by saying that capturing Kiera would be like the Coyote capturing the Roadrunner…what now? They escape but it leads to a stand-off in which Kellogg and Curtis arrive to affirm the information is true. Kiera and Liber8 finally appear to work for the same goal now, so it is possible for them to work together?
Alec’s beta product with the HALO project is having serious consequences for Jason and anyone who may be in his vicinity. Julian finds this out the hard way when Jason mistakes him for a threat and nearly kills him before Alec intervenes. Julian was simply searching for problems with the HALO prototype which nearly led to his death. Alec promises to continue searching for the reason behind Jason’s altered behavior caused by using the HALO bracelet. Alec is being driven into a deeper craze by attempting to make the HALO project work and it may take Kiera and Liber8 together after all to bring him down from completely destroying not only himself and Jason’s sanity, but the future altogether.
Carlos and Kiera discover that Dillon has been covering up several violent attacks that were perpetuated by users of Alec’s dangerous HALO prototype. Their behavior, similar to Jason’s, seems to induce hallucinations as well as aggressive behavior. Julian becomes involved when Carlos turns to him for help in dealing with the problem at hand. Due to the unpredictable nature of Alec’s time travel device, it ends up being confiscated by VPD after Jason’s first outburst and ends up being held in the police department’s evidence room.
One by one everything in the new timelline is being ripped apart by Green Alec’s actions. Liber8 is forced to recognize that their actions in the future are simply from being used as pawns in a bigger power game. Kellogg is now growing ever more powerful and seeming as he knows it, he’ll do anything in his power to make his future as bright as possible. Jason’s well-being is being sacrificed by Alec so that he might get his HALO prototype running. That’s definitely not the Alec we all know and love and even Kiera can’t be blind to his newfound coldness. John Doe though, I would not have expected him to be a cold-blooded killer from the future. Where does all of this leave him now? “3 Minutes to Midnight” was another solid episode leading us into the final 2 episodes of the season, yes, FINAL TWO. Where does everyone go from here? What are your thoughts on “3 Minutes to Midnight”?
