Great news for all you Pacific Rim rans. On Thursday Director Guillermo del Toro announced that Legendary Pictures have committed to making a sequel to the hit film. The expected release date is April 7th, 2017. Del Toro is said to have tapped screenwriter Zak Penn for the film. Also announced was an animated series at some point between now the the release of the 2nd film. The other good news is the cast of the first film are expected to return for the second film.
America’s obsession with monster movies is far from over. Just look at the reboot of Godzilla which nearly doubled Pacific Rims total.

Legendary is clearly bullish that it can expand the film’s rabid fan-base for the subsequent sequel — and certainly Legendary’s recent reboot of Godzilla, which has nearly doubled Pacific Rim’s U.S. grosses, proves that American audiences are still keen on watching rampaging giant monsters on the big screen.
