Today on Twitter, Maril Davis, Outlander’s producer, chatted with fans. Photos are from Outlander’s Instagram account.
Q I’m an early bird, but gotta get one in before the masses: If there is a possibility of a Season 2, are you already doing planning?
A Welcome early bird. We’re thinking about stuff just in case, but obviously we’re very busy with Season 1 right now!
Q I want to know if Cat and Sam torment each other all day long like they do in interviews?
A Yes, they do. 🙂 #troublemakers
Q Where does an idea for a TV show usually begin for you?
A I try to read a lot. Magazines, books, newspapers, etc.Ideas can come from anywhere!
Q When will you start block 7 (episodes 13-14)? Almost done with 6?
A Starting the next block next week! About to finish up Block 6. Two more to go!
Q What inspired you to become a producer/writer?
A I love TV. Always have. And I like telling people what to do 😉 Just kidding.
Q How are “all of you” dealing with “all of us”? We mean well, I hope we aren’t too overwhelming.
A Well, I’m kind of “one of you” already. U guys are great. Knowing so many are already excited about the show is fun for us.
Q Who’s doing the best in the World Cup pool?
A Well, I’m already out. Hard to say since there are so many teams still in it.
Q How much vacation time will you all (actors/crew) get before you start Season 2?
A If we get a season 2, a lot of people would have to roll right into prep, But I hope we get a couple weeks off. #Hawaiiiscalling
Q Will we see little Roger sleeping in the chair in season 1?
A You’ll have to wait and see. 🙂
Q Can you describe the title sequence in two words? We’re DYING to know anything about Bear McCreary’s music.
A Hmmmm. How about Awe and Some.
Q Any chance we will get Cat and Sam’s auditions on Season 1 DVD?
A Not sure about that.
Q Any idea about a “break” between the airings of the episodes? We’ve heard rumors of one.
A I’m not sure.
Q OK so Donas… is the horse playing him mean or just trained that way?
A Donas is lovely. He only plays mean on TV.
Q Is it true you and Diana personally picked Donas? What were you looking for?
A Yes. I wanted to make sure Diana was happy!
Q Any chance to hear/see a little sneak peek of the opening theme before August 9?
A Maybe. Stay tuned.
Q Will you come to an Outlandia even next time you’re in Oregon?
A Love to!
Q If you could pick any job on the production other than your own, what would you choose to do?
A Hmmmm. Maybe operate the camera? 🙂
Q How long will each episode be? I can’t remember if this has been mentioned… 60 minutes?
A Episodes vary, but in the 50 minute range.
Q Will you get to come stateside for press/ComicCon or will you be minding the store?
A I’m going to ComicCon! See some of you there! Matt Roberts is more than capable of holding down the castle. 🙂
Q While you’re at SDCC will you be fangirling any other shows?
A Well, Helix, of course!
Q Do you know when we will see Ian in his costume?
A That’s up to @Outlander_Starz.
Q Will Jasper get a cameo?
A LOL – not sure there were a lot of cocker spaniels around during that time?
Q Do you have any other favorite books that you would like to produce or see turned into TV shows?
A Not sure I want to share on Twitter! Someone might steal my idea!!! 😉
Q Has any of the fangirl tendencies subsided over the lat few months? Is it still surprising? #giddysquees
A No. Every day holds a new fan girl moment. The #squees never stop.
Q Will you be done filming all the episodes before August 9?
A noooooooooooooooo
Q Will there be more fan events, like the LA Gathering?
A I hope so!!!
Q Did you finish MOBY? If so, what did you think?
A I wish. Too busy sadly. 🙁 I’ve started it, but sadly I’ve been too busy.
Q Has the social media aspect of this project been a distraction or is it adding to the fun?
A It adds to the fun! Nice to know how much y’all care.
Q Has anything about filming in Scotland surprised/pleased/upset you?
A I grew up in Oregon, so I know rain. But the amount of rain here has surprised me a bit.
Q How frustrating has the weather been for filming certain scenes?
A The whole point to filming in Scotland is to experience the place where the books take place. And with that comes the weather.
Q How does it feel to be involved with one of the most anticipated shows of 2014?
A LOL – pretty great.
Q Do you have a favorite episode?
A That’s like asking if I have a favorite child! #cantdoit
Q Is it 2 episodes and 1 director per block?
A Yes.
Q Have you chosen what to wear on the red carpet in San Diego?
A I barely have time to plan what I’m wearing tomorrow. 😉
Q How did you celebrate when you first heard that Outlander was a “go”?
A I think Ron and I found out while we were still in the Starz parking lot. I think we celebrated with a bear hug. 🙂
Q Will you have a cameo – even just a passer-by sort of thing? We’ve love to see you on screen!
A No plans right now. Plus, not sure the hair department wants to deal with my #ClaireHair.
Q Speaking of hair, did anyone know Sam’s hair was that curly?
A I bet Sam knew… 😉
Q If you could choose one character in Outlander, which one would you be?
A Well, Claire of course!!!!
Q What are some of your favorite TV shows EVER?
A SportsNight, West Wing, Friday Night Lights, Battlestar Galactica.
Q How long have you, Ron and Matt been working together? And if you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing (career wise)?
A Ron and I have been working together for 10 plus years. If I wasn’t producing, I would have loved to have worked in sports!
Q Favorite musicians/bands EVER?
A LOL – as Caitriona knows, my taste in music is all over the place. I love Barry Manilow, the BeeGees, and hair bands. 😉
Q Before all this started, how long had you wished someday you’d see Outlander on screen?
A FOR-EVER. It’s been my passion project for a long time, so I feel pretty lucky to be involved!
Q When did you first read Outlander?
A Well, let’s see. I think Matt Roberts recommended it to me 10 years ago?
