Falling Skies

Recap

So that awkward moment when your having sex with your brothers girlfriend and your brother walks in but wait its all a dream. Thats a pretty messed up dream. Ben wakes up and is told the overlord escaped. Lexi is changing, and she knows Tom and the others are close to being back together with them. Hal and his group make it to the outskirts of Chinatown and meet up with Anne and Ben’s group. Tom, Matt and Weaver show up as well, making the 2nd mass whole again.

Lourdes returns to Lexi only to find her inside a cocoon of some sort. Pope and the others come into town wondering whats going on, but lets it slide a bit since there is food and water, none of it in short supply. Anne reveals to Tom that Lexi is no longer a baby but what both of them don’t realize yet is what Lexi is transforming into now.

Maggie has her reunion with Hal, as Ben watches on a bit saddened considering he was starting to fall for her. The question is, does she feel the same way back? Ben, and Hal also look at the cocoon unsure of what it all means. Dr. Kadar explains it like a caterpillar. She is starting to change into the ‘butterfly’ but they cannot pull her out without the risk of killing her.

Tom remembers seeing this cocoon before when he was on the tower with Karen and Anne was in it. They decide to put Anne under hypnosis in order to find her memories about it. Maggie and Hal are both concerned about what Lexi is becoming and want to tell everyone but Ben defends Lexi trying to convince them to wait until they know more. During Anne’s first dream state we get a look at her son and what happen to him after the initial invasion. While it jars her, she goes back under to dig deeper into her memories.

Weaver is concerned about Tom’s judgement with Lexi but understands that as a father Tom would protect her till his death. Weaver touches the cocoon burning himself as it is extremely hot to the touch. Hal is very dead set against protecting Lexi at this point, almost to the point of losing both Tom and Ben’s trust. Maggie addresses the group explaining whats happening with Lexi and tells everyone they should be prepared to take action. Hal walks in and feeds fuel to it by allowing Maggie to tell everyone that Lexi had also been meeting with an overlord.

Tom walks into the meeting and is upset that Maggie and Hal would play into the fear and turn everyone against his own sister. Tom promises to protect Lexi until they learn more. As everyone finds out about her current state, Pope and the group lead a mob to try and kill Lexi while she is in the cocoon. Ben, Tom, Weaver and Matt form a line to stop them from coming in. Ben pleaded with Maggie to hold back judgement until they learn more and it seems Maggie is siding with Ben for now, much to Hal’s dislike.

The Volm reveal to Hal and the others that this cocoon is what they normally see Espheni hatchlings come out of and they are at their most violent when they emerge from the shell. That leads us to believe that Lexi will come out of this as an Espheni reborn. But will she be violent as the Volm have seen before?

Anne’s second dream state reveals Karen taking the baby from Anne while she was kept in a cocoon similar to Lexi’s. However it was also shown that no matter how much Karen tried to convince Lexi that she didn’t need her mom, Lexi still needed her. Anne was unable to wake up from the dream and had an out of body experience but Lexi in her current state was also able to reach out to Anne and pull her back. Anne knew now she had to go be by Lexi’s side.

When Anne touched the cocoon she wasn’t burned like Weaver and Lexi moved her hand inside to be near her mothers.

Review

So door number one was that everyone come to Chinatown, drink the koolaid and be happy with the Espheni. Not. Door number 2 was grab guns, and go to war fighting their way out of Chinatown and into the next confrontation. Nope. So let’s go with door number 3, wait outside an espheni hatchling cocoon for Lexi to come out and see what happens. This isn’t going to end well for the 2nd mass. You cannot fault Ben or Tom for trying to defend her, she is family after all. Though I would think Ben would be a bit more cautious about her knowing everything he knows.

There is a moment in this episode where Hal makes a comment to Dingaan that he saw something up near the moon but before Dingaan can see it they are shouted at with guns pointed at them. The moon has been brought up many times this season and Lexi has some connection to it and this just continues to raise questions about what is up on the moon?

Ben’s dream was a bit of an I told ya so moment. Many people where shocked when they heard about the love triangle of Ben, Maggie and Hal. The preview made that even worse as it seemed a little out of character for Ben to sleep with her. Turns out it was just a dream. But the love story is far from over, so there will be more to come. However, considering what the monk has done to Ben with this mind link I wonder if the monk isn’t forcing these dreams on Ben in order to push an agenda of his own?
