Harold Perrineau, who will be costarring in Constantine beginning tomorrow evening, participated in a Q&A session on Facebook this afternoon. Here’s a transcript of all the answered questions. To see all the questions asked, go here.
Q Is this show more exciting to you than past shows you have been on, for example Lost? By the way you are an awesome actor!
A Every show I do I’m excited about. It’s the reason I go after them.
Q Given John’s past with angels, do you think he and your character will have a sort of budding friendship as he works towards his “salvation”?
A Maybe, but it will be A HARD FOUGHT FRIENDSHIP.
Q Will other supernatural superheroes be in Constantine like zatanna, black orchid, etrigan, phantom stranger?
A Not this first season but I believe our writers have lots of ideas for subsequent seasons if we get picked up.
Q I wonder how much did you change things in comic books against TV series. What can We expect? Thanks, with regards, czech fans.
A Not much is changed from the comics about Constantine himself, just we just have a few different stories and my character, Manny, was never in the comics.
Q What did you like the most about the script? I’m looking forward to see you. Hope you never get Lost.
A It’s really original. Dark and a bit scary.
Q Are angels morally ambiguous in this series?
A My angel, Manny, is.
Q Was your role on Z Nation so short because of this project?
A Yup.
Q What was your favorite part in filming the new series?
A It’s really scary and exciting creating new things and seeing if people like it.
Q How does it feel working on a project with such a cult following in the comics? Is there pressure on the set to conform to the expectations of the long time fans?
A No pressure to conform, but we hope to do the graphic novel justice. We hope the fans that love the comics will love our show as well.
Q Is it more difficult to play a character that is pure evil, or a character that lives in shades of grey?
A Shades of grey. I think that’s where most of life is lived.
Q Are you guys gonna give Constantine one of those e-cigarettes to get around the whole no cigarettes thing?
A NEVER
Q How did you prepare for your character?? Regards from Mexico City !!
A I did a lot of research from the Bible and a lot of Angel lore to put together Manny.
Q Who is your favorite superhero?
A I LOVE the Silver Surfer. Don’t know why, I just do.
Q What story arc from the comics are we gonna start off in when the series starts, or is it going to be a story all its own?
A There are elements from multiple episodes that we use in our pilot. Later on we take a few directly from the comic books.
Q Are you taking a particular inspiration from any one Hellblazer or Constantine story?
A I am not. My character is a creation for our version of Constantine but our writers sometimes pulling stories directly from the comics.
Q Whats your favorite story arc in the Hellblazer series?
A I’m pretty new to Hellblazer so I’m still just sifting through.
Q How do you feel about the comparison of the show to the movie with Keanu Reeves?
A I think there have been many great artists that have taken a shot at Constantine. This is just our turn so comparisons don’t bother me at all.
Q Will there be at least one Keanu Reeves joke?
A Not one.
Constantine premieres tomorrow night, Friday, October 24, 9 pm eastern/8 central
