It’s the beginning of the end, but the end of what? Obviously, we’re nearing the end of the eighth series with this being the penultimate episode and part one of a two-part finale. What’s not so clear, yet, is who Missy is, why she’s so fascinated with Clara, and how she’s mixed up with Cybermen. I guess that last bit’s not much of a stretch since Missy’s been seen cavorting with clockwork droids. Methinks the lady doth have an obsession with mechanical men.
The above promo from BBC America and the one below from BBC One don’t give away a lot, but they do a proper job of whetting our appetites for what’s shaping up to be one hell of a finale.
Clara says, “Clara Oswald has never existed” which sounds ominous, but she’s saying it to a Cyberman who’s got his blaster trained on her. Could she be trying some kind of Doctor-ish ploy to keep from getting shot? Perhaps she’s using logic to fry the Cyberman’s brain. Clara’s been more of an apprentice to the Doctor lately than a companion, so that would fit right in with recent events.
Kate Stewart, Osgood (and her inhaler), and the whole of U.N.I.T. are on the case, fighting Missy and … flying Cybermen?! Somebody call Tony Stark because the upgrade-obsessed metal men have clearly stolen one of his patents … the ferrous fiends!
Doctor Who: Dark Water airs Saturday, November 1 at 9/8c on BBC America
