On October 24, Syfy’s official Ascension account (@AscensionSyfy) tweeted out a “top secret” video that currently doesn’t seem to be found anywhere else. The video looks like an old, black and white short that reminds me a little of those Dharma Initiative film reels the LOST gang found inside the hatch.
It’s got all the hallmarks of an old film clip, complete with scratches, lint specks, and fuzzy audio. If it were lacking context, and the Syfy logo in the corner, you might be fooled into thinking it was actually made back in the late ’50s/early ’60s for Project Orion, the real-life program Ascension is based on. Click the Project Orion link to learn more about how close Ascension came to becoming a reality.
The video is hosted by rocket scientist (yes, that’s his real title) Dr. Abraham Enzmann. The good doctor gives an inspirational speech about how mankind needs to move out into the stars for the sake of humanity’s survival. He also gives us an idea of just how big the Ascension is, by having a scale model displayed alongside models of the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.
It’s big. It’s damned big. Watch the video in their tweet below.
