They met on the battlefield, it was love at first sight. Never mind they were fighting a battle against an army of extraterrestrial Tyrannosaurus Rex soldiers armed with head-mounted laser cannons. This was true love, born in the trenches of war and nurtured by their Ridiculously Awesome Adventures®.
Escaping the enemy by riding on the back of a giant, radioactive bear, they take up residence in Stacey’s submarine. Only this is no ordinary submarine. Under attack from a giant megalodon, Stacey throws a lever, turning her submarine into a spaceship and blasting the couple into the relative safety of outer space.
They remain in space for a while, but even with their overly adventurous life, somehow their relationship turns stale. They drift apart, and eventually the once happy couple find themselves nothing more than angry shipmates who argue over everything.
During one of those arguments, Stacey accidentally sets off the spaceship’s self-destruct sequence by throwing a stalk of celery. Yes, celery exploded the crap out of an entire spaceship. They escape by diving to Earth in only their spacesuits, becoming flaming meteors as they reenter the atmosphere. This inadvertently scares the T-Rex invaders into retreating to their home planet.
Tommy Chaos and Stacey Danger save the Earth simply by falling to it.
But they don’t stop when they hit the ground, because that would be ordinary and this is, after all, a series of Ridiculously Awesome Adventures®. The duo keep falling until they reach the center of the Earth where they meet once again. Charred, but uninjured, they see the glowing eyes of that radioactive bear. Suddenly and simultaneously, they understand what fuels their love. It was adventure that brought them together in the first place. Now, their new adventure, triggered by flying celery, opens their eyes once again to the love they have for each other
This barely 9-minute film is full of outrageous fun packed tightly into a narrative short that hardly lets you catch your breath. Purposefully silly with wonderfully cheesy visual effects adding to the charm, The Life and Death of Tommy Chaos and Stacey Danger is one of the most fun shorts I’ve ever seen.
The Life and Death of Tommy Chaos and Stacey Danger tells the tale of a romantic adventure
Think Blue Valentine meets Jurassic Park.
Dinosaurs have invaded Earth but neither Tommy nor Stacey care anymore, now that they’ve met each other. They escape the war, but whether they dive to the bottom of the ocean or fly to Outer Space, conflict always seems to find a way into their lives.
Many thanks to Short of the Week for showcasing this project, and they say plans are in motion to turn this short into a feature film. Please note there is a bit of profanity in the dialogue in case you’re sensitive to that sort of thing.
