The newest film in the terminator series had its very first trailer release today. Many have been concerned about yet another film after what was considered a bad last few films. Time travel is always a tricky game to play and can really leave the audience confused. But lets face it, the audience has grown up and are very use to the complex story lines that time travel bring. Director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World and Game Of Thrones) did the one thing he needed to do with this series. He pulled a J.J. Abrams, Star Trek reboot. Thats to say he used time travel to erase everything the other movies did and allow himself to start fresh with his own re-telling of the story. The trailer proves there are still some connections back to the original story, just like Star Trek did, but it appears it will be going down its own path.
Plus what time travel story line isn’t complete without a former time traveling Time Lord like Matt Smith along for the ride or for that matter, the Queen of Dragons like Emilia Clarke? Clarke I can see playing the role of an ass kicking younger version of Sarah Connor.
Frankly the trailer may have a really bad CGI 1984 Arnold but the fact that they brought Arnold back is one of the main reasons I would go and see this. Combining Arnold with an entirely new story line into the films allows for the best of what made T1 and T2 while not trying to continue to retell the same story line. My opinion is probably not the popular one for the series but lets face it, I wasn’t too sure about the Star Trek reboots but after watching them I got re-hooked into the series after losing interest. Let’s hope that Genisys lives up to the trailer.
