It seems like they’ve been kicking this one around for years, which they have, but now there’s finally a film, a release date (August 7, 2015), and a teaser trailer for this “reimagining” of the Fantastic Four. Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), this new film stars Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan (The Wire) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer) as Ben Grimm/The Thing (Not to be confused with that other Thing. You know, that Thing from Another World. Yeah, that one.)
There ain’t exactly a lot in the teaser, but considering it’s still January and the film doesn’t come out until August, there’s plenty of time to flood us with teasers, trailers, and sneak peeks. Oh, and 20th Century FOX has enough faith in this film that they’ve already announced a sequel tentatively scheduled for a June 2, 2017 release date. This first one better not suck, or it’s clobberin’ time.
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
Fantastic Four lands in cinemas on Friday, August 7, 2015
