12 Monkeys is a drama based on the 1995 Universal Pictures film directed by Terry Gilliam.
The show follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.
“Our Future Is History” is the title theme to the new series, based on the film of the same name. But don’t let the fact that its based on the film deter you, because although the basic premise is based on the film, this is not a cover series for the movie. The series verges away from the film and becomes its own thing. The series stars Aaron Stanford in the role of title character Cole, which was played by Bruce Willis in the film and Amanda Schull who plays Katrina Bennett.
Co-Executive Producer Travis Fickett says “The story might not be linear, but the emotional journey is.” Schull was excited at the idea of working on a series that involved time traveling saying “It’s every actors dream to do time travel with alternate realities.” The series is currently filming in Toronto and just wrapped up episode 10.
