AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead” Teaser: Good Morning Los Angeles

By: Tom Gardiner March 29, 2015
TV Previews Fear the Walking Dead, teaser, the walking dead, trailer

We’ve known about the upcoming companion (not spin-off) series to AMC’s phenomenal hit The Walking Dead for months.  Recently, we found out it’s going to be called Fear the Walking Dead, a title that has spurred much discussion in online circles.  Now, after the finale of The Walking Dead, AMC has released a first, quick look at the summer series.  While there’s really not a lot to see in 15 seconds, at least what’s shown spawns more hope than its unimaginative title.

Fear the Walking Dead will take place at an earlier time than its parent series, occurring about the time of the original outbreak.  The teaser shows quick-cut shots of a pre-apocalypse Los Angeles while a news reporter’s voice-over tells of a “strange virus” outbreak in five states.  It’ll be interesting to see the early days of the zombie uprising, but one has to wonder where it’ll go once the show finds itself in the same situation as the original.  Honestly, I hope it focuses on research into the virus itself and a potential cure or vaccine.

As enjoyable as The Walking Dead may be, Fear the Walking Dead is going to have to take a different path or risk being a carbon copy of the original.  Since the show already has a two season order, they’ve got plenty of time to make a name for themselves.  When the idea for this series was originally announced, I had a few tongue-in-cheek ideas for the premise.  I doubt any of them are even close to accurate, but see what you think in my post “The Walking Dead” to Get Companion Series – A Few Offbeat Ideas.

About the Show

What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in The Walking Dead? This summer, AMC will answer that question withFear The Walking Dead, an all-new original series set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world.

Starring Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, Sons of Anarchy), Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) and Executive Produced by Dave Erickson (Marco Polo, Sons of Anarchy), Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert, Fear The Walking Dead premieres this summer, with a second season airing in 2016.
