I have followed Rafael Albuquerque since meeting him way back in the day at San Diego Comic Con. It’s been exciting watching him grow in the industry and I really could not be more proud of him!
When Dark Horse announced the collaboration, I knew it was going to be incredible. I was NOT wrong! Issue #1 sold out the first print very fast, and I imagine the same will happen with the others to follow.
I love the color differentials for the past, present, future, and the meld. It’s an interesting story telling device that allows the plot to jump from one to the other seamlessly. Rafael does an incredible job of transitioning, and the color scheme definitely helps the reader to follow the story.
Like Joshua, we begin issue 2 confused as to where he is and why he’s there. Nila, the meld woman, shows him a bit of their camp, and we find out that she was meld born; this means that there have been people living in the meld for some time now. How did they get there? What are they doing? We discover Joshua’s motivation in going on the mission and now I’m even more curious as to why/how he ended up in the meld. We meet The Spear, the ruler of the Citadel, who has Joshua’s ship, and learn that they want Joshua as well. There’s also an underlying story about a group of explorers who accidentally travel into the past. Their purpose is not yet known, but I have a feeling something major is going to happen between them and the folk stuck in the meld. I’m looking forward to the rest of the story and I can’t wait to read more!
