The new limited run revival of the X-Files series on FOX has added 2 familiar faces to the list of people returning from the original series.
According to TV Line, writer/producers Glen Morgan and James Wong have signed on to the limited 6 episode series. It was big news for fans when FOX announced that finally the rumors of a revival for the series was actually happening and that they were getting their 2 leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Morgan and Wong have been responsible for some of the most popular episodes of the series. While most would have liked a longer run then the limited 6 episodes, many feel something is better than nothing.
Each will write and direct one episode each. X-files creator Chris Carter recently did a Q and A with the Vancouver Sun and revealed even more spoilers for fans. TV Line summarized the key take aways as follows:
- Mulder and Scully’s relationship will not be in the same place we left it at the end of the series.
- Like x-files episodes of the past, there will continue to be an overarching Mulder/Scully conspiracy plot line that will link together the original series and the new one, while still having some stand alone stories.
- That elusive Mulder and Scully love scene may be nigh. “It was part of the mystery of The X-Files,” says Carter when asked why the pair’s relationship was never explicitly consummated (despite having a son together). “That relationship was kind of mysterious. Did they get together? Didn’t they get together? If they’ve got a child together, when did they get together? These are questions that we will deal with and answer in good time.”
- The cold open, a staple of The X-Files that started with the pilot, will be back. “We had to get a special dispensation to do a teaser — a little two- or three-minute segment in the beginning that sets up the show,” explains Carter. They had done away with that approach on Fox, so they allowed us to go back to, I would call it, old-style.”
- There’s “a big chance” the Lone Gunmen will join returning X-vets Mulder, Scully, Skinner and The Smoking Man.
The X-Files series coming to FOX is expect to start filming this summer.
