The general buzz online about the new Fantastic Four film has been pretty mediocre and at times far less than enthusiastic. The first films failed to make as much of a splash as many of Marvel’s other properties have and it seems viewers aren’t all that thrilled with the news it’s coming back with a new twist on the origin story. After viewing the teaser I was moderately hopeful for this latest stab at the franchise, but this new, extended trailer really has me feeling a lot better about it. In fact, I’m pretty excited at this point.
The only thing I’m not all that pumped about is Doom. With the origin of our heroes changed from spaceflight to interdimensional travel, I was really hoping they’d come up with a completely original villain instead of bringing back Doom. Still, I’m willing to give the film the benefit of the doubt.
The trailer is almost three minutes long and we get much better looks at everyone’s abilities. The biggest addition is lots of The Thing doing his thing. Stick around for the extra bit at the end of the trailer for a rocky drop from a plane.
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
