First Outlander Licensee Items Available; Contest Winners; More!

So much going on in the threeifbyspace Outlander world! Let’s start at the top:

Here are the winners in our #TartanAffair contest –

Kathy Bubb Baker and Michele Orr-Gray were our two big winners. Kathy’s entry cracked us up completely.

I am certainly stockpiling amazing stories. I think I will choose the funniest. I flew to Seattle to attend the Random House Event for Moby last June. April Steele, Lisa Branford, Marie Baker and I went to the grocery store for grub. Lisa and Marie got ahead of April and me on the way out. April and I were chatting away and headed for the gold minivan in the lot. We headed for the back doors, yanked them open, and climbed in only to see two elderly Hispanic people in the front seat with fear and shock in their eyes!!! The man yelled something at us in Spanish as April and I clambered back out of the van mumbling apologies. We then ran screaming and shrieking with laughter to the correct van where Lisa and Marie were staring at us in bewilderment. There you go, “The day April Steele and I hijacked some old people’s van”.

And Michele’s story showed the reach of our fandom – all the way to Thailand!

My favorite Outlander moment was about 6 years ago while I was on a vacation in Thailand over Christmas. My husband had passed away not long before and the thought of “celebrating” the holidays was intolerable so I decided to go as far away and to as foreign a place as I could find.Traveling alone can be daunting, but also liberating! While swimming in the hotel pool in Bangkok, I noticed a woman at the side reading The Fiery Cross. Without any hesitation whatsoever, I called out to her to ask, “How are you enjoying Diana Gabaldon’s book?” This was quite some time before there was any inkling there would be the TV series, of course, but even then I knew any fan of Diana’s writing would be a friend of mine. We spent the next couple of hours in hot debate of who might be “good enough” to portray Jamie, laughing and laughing like long-lost friends. It was wonderful! I’m from Pennsylvania/US and she was Australian living in New Zealand. I learned so much about her countries! (and what a fabulous accent!) She said they’d filmed Lord of the Rings practically in her backyard. She had to send her husband away several times, telling him that our conversation wasn’t finished yet. 🙂 My favorite Outlander “moment” and my favorite Thailand trip moment!

Honestly, there were MANY great entries, and I wish I had more prizes to offer. But I would like to just say that while some of you gave us excellent stories, we had to disqualify nearly a fourth of the entries because you didn’t check off in the Rafflecopter box that you had left a comment!

Licensed merchandise is starting to come out! Ripple Junction recently released the first of several shirts on Amazon: this Official Sassenach Est 1743  is available now! New shirts will be available on Amazon and other online outlets – as we get more information, we’ll share it with you.

“Like” us on our new Outlander Facebook page. I’ve put a list of all of our Twitter and Facebook Q&A transcriptions in the Notes tab; you can find our #TartanAffair red carpet video coverage there; and more is coming!

And I’ve got a new dedicated Twitter handle – @OutlanderTiBS. I hope you’ll continue following me at my other handle, @ErinConrad2 – we’re friends, right? And threeifbyspace does lots more than just cover Outlander – but the new Twitter handle will let us connect directly.
